We just had an earthquake in the Bay Area! I am safe among the rubble.

I was sitting at my desk just now when I felt my desk chair vibrating slightly. It lasted for about two seconds, and then suddenly, it stopped. I checked to see if Kitty had rubbed against my chair, but she slept through it on my balcony. If you are a Californian, you know what Californians do after an earthquake. They go on Facebook to see if their friends felt it. So far, one friend has reported it as a jolt. But I'm not sure of their exact location. The epicenter was in San Ramon, maybe 20 miles South of me. 4.1, the USGS website says. But here it was more like 2.0, if that. I checked Eeyore. He is my seismic friend. In a more severe earthquake, he fell six feet from my bookshelf to my turntable. He said "Oh well, it would be me that would fall." I will attach a photo of the aftermath of that 'quake. He did not fall today. Have you ever experienced an earthquake?

We have earthquakes in my country every day. I don´t even feel it if it is smaller than 5.5 Richter. I watch the lamps to see if they are swaying for the bigger ones. If they sway too much I turn on the local news.

I've experienced three earthquakes. One each in Hawaii, Iowa and Illinois. Never one in California. Not that I remember, anyway. Californians are always giving me sense deadening substances when I'm there, so maybe I've been through a bunch there.

@xander6464 You were in Hawaii- as Agent 002 !! Surprising for me. Your past records do not mention that anywhere on the Secret Files !!

@vandana7 Probably but they are likely consent-based. If the dumb blonde says, "Yeah, I'd like to try that," then it's not illegal.

We felt a tremor here a few years ago. Not long after that they stopped fracking

@TheHorse Reverse that. I think. Ohio was allowing fracking. After we felt the tremor fracking was forced to stop. At least for a little bit. I dont know if they are back to it or not.

Fracking. Does it lead to severe earthquakes? Or just little ones?

So fracking causes stability? And non-fracking causes earthquakes?

@thehorse We had one of those earthquake things yesterday which we never have. It was actually in Scotland but was felt here and was very small anyway no matter where it was. We had them regularly in Africa. Gable wall fell off one time. It happens.

Only once and that was several years ago. I felt the house shiver and pictures on the wall shook. I thought the house was collapsing. Next morning I saw a ditch had opened up at the side of our house and pulled a small tree down.

Well we had a big earthquake in 2015 which had a terrible impact in Nepal. People had to rush out of buildings to the open. There was a bigger one in 2005 as well. Was there something that fell off from the wall?

Just two. The first one lasted long. May be a three to five seconds. The second one barely a second or so. Neither was severe enough. I like in Zone II. Come to India. You will be safe where I live. No forest fires, no bears, no earthquakes (less frequency), no tornadoes, no hurricanes... no sharks. :)

I have seen the news, 3.9 magnitude earthquake 3 Km from San Ramon. Yes, I have experienced more than one earthquake. We had some pretty strong in Monte Carlo and living on a high floor you could feel it very well.

@TheHorse Do you mean which the strongest we had? I think to remember it was 4.7. All the books fell from the shelves, the sofa and chairs were moved from the walls, I had a strong feeling of vertigo and could not get up from my chair and we heard a very loud noise immediately before it happened.

@TheHorse An earthquake is not fun. I remember my first experience with one. I never experienced one before. I was in a class in the bomb shelter and all of a sudden things started to move and all I could think of was my cat I had at home and if she was ok when I got home and I was glad. Kitty was on the balcony. I am glad she slept through it. I hope to not experience one again but we have had more here.

I'm glad you, Kitty and Eeyore are safe and sound. Yes, we've had a few. The largest I remember was a 5.0. My husband was working down in the salt mine; and I was panicked that he was down there.

Yes, I have. There was a 5.2 earthquake centered in Illinois in 2008, and we felt it here in Louisville. I think, honestly, it was just JJ cranking up his stereo really loud, but…
