I got some work done on my book today.

I am trying to decide what is safe and what is unsafe when I use my computer. Several of my MyLot friends convinced me that MyLot is probably not responsible for my recent woes.
So I worked on my book this morning.
Microsoft takes almost ten dollars a month from me just for the right to access and edit my own documents. We live in interesting times.
I will keep writing until I can't write any more. I hope my book makes me zillions of dollars.
We shall see.

I think not. I have published about 20 scholarly articles, but nobody reads them except other "academics." I am writing book about working with disadvantaged children. I am hoping it will appeal to academics and the public alike.

Writing takes so much time. It takes me three hours to start and finish a novel.

@TheHorse I never know how anything is going to end. And that rarely changes, even after I'm done writing it.

@xander6464 Sounds frustrating. That's why rarely publish novels. And when I do, I tend to use aliases.

I bought the Office Suite outright when I bought my computer. Much cheaper that way. I hope you make zillions of dollars too. I'd like a house in the Keys and a boat for my husband. lolololol Glad you decided to stay.

if it will help (and since that is my chosen profession) I would happily advise my equine friend on Cyber Hygiene!

@TheHorse The easy button is stop using passwords.
move to pass phrases.

they are more complex, harder to guess and much harder to break
plus best of all if you personalize them, you will always remember them!

That's where the older computers were better: you could store your work on a disk at home.

Hopefully, your book gets mainstream attention. If you want to make zillions, though, you probably need to write a book offering advice on how to make zillions.

Good luck with your writing. Aw, sorry to hear something sounds like it happened in the recent woes Dept. :/
There's software out there called Open Office, it's pretty good, and free :-)

Yeah indeed in this digital era we have to take care of ourselves and our accounts so that they don't get hacked or bad things happen in the future, because there are always people who want to harm others for their own benefit.
