World Television Day

This morning, I was curious about what holidays there were today. I did a search and found that, among other things, today is World Television Day.
The holiday was established in 1996 by the United Nations. The UN site describes the holiday as such: "World Television Day is not so much a celebration of the tool, but rather the philosophy which it represents. Television represents a symbol for communication and globalization in the contemporary world."
For me, television played a crucial role in my formative years. It was television rather than any other influence in my life that established early on for me that I would be going to college.

I didn't either until this morning. It seems that it doesn't receive that much coverage in the press.

@nela13 It still has a crucial role to play in transmitting information even if aspects of it have changed in recent years.

@wilsongoddard probably, nowadays TV isn't as important as it used to be due to the internet.

I did not know that. I am into TV, more than I should be.

I've always been a television watcher. While I learned many things from books, there are certain values (i.e., going on to college) that I soaked up from television.

@wilsongoddard TV gets a bad rap. In reality, I think most of it is very educational. If my ex had been able to watch more TV as a child he wouldn't be as geeky as he is today..

My husband watches a lot of television. There are a few programs that I watch.

That's amazing that you became college bound by what you watched on TV.
