Long Weekend

Our Thanksgiving didn’t go as planned.
Our older son has kept our 11 year old grandson Covid-free for 20 months. He is due for his second Pfizer vaccine tomorrow, but our son wanted everyone tested before agreeing to visit.
Well, my brother and his wife declined to get tested.
My younger son and his girlfriend would have gotten tested, but her mother, a head flight attendant for American Airlines, was in India and returning the day before Thanksgiving, so couldn’t be tested. Her brother has no insurance and didn’t want to spend $150 for the test. Hubs and I had our test on Tuesday and are Covid free.
As a result, our younger son hosted Thanksgiving for his girlfriend, her mother, and brother at his house.
We hosted our older son, daughter-in-law, and our precious grandkids at our house. We had a wonderful time, but missed our younger son. It was the first time he missed Thanksgiving with us. We did visit with him the night before and the day after.
By the way, we had a phone call the evening before Thanksgiving from our older son. Our granddaughter, the Ice Princess, had just been informed that a skater, her friend and the coach’s daughter, came down with Covid. We decided to hold Thanksgiving anyway.
Never a dull minute here!

Covid has changed many things. Glad you were still able to have a gopd Thanksgiving in spite of it all.

Covid dictates all of our dos and don'ts. But family is family, regardless of what turns this virus decides to make. God's love still comes out on top!

Just thrilled to see the grandkids and their parents. Not easy for them to make time for Connecticut. At least our younger son dropped by on Tuesday night and came for dinner Friday night. His girlfriend went to NYC to visit a friend. I hope her little friend is okay.

That's a shame you couldn't have the Thanksgiving you wanted but at least you gathered with those you don't see quite as much. My one nephew may or may not be vaccinated. My sister hasn't asked him, as it would be aggravating for her if he said no. She thinks his work probably has required it though as he works for a government contractor. The rest of us all have boosters so we felt safe.

I agree, but will have the others over for dinner in the near future. It was wonderful seeing our older son and his family and more peaceful. lol
My brother’s son isn’t vaccinated and wasn’t allowed in my home. We’ve all had our vaccines and boosters, but I refuse to take the risk. He lives in Miami and flys to Vegas and NYC (his other home) too much, too. Better safe than sorry, especially for the grandkids.

Covid definitely has changed everything. Life is definitely different than it used to be 2 years ago. Little did we know then how things would be now. Glad you were able to spend some time with your elder son, his wife, and their kids. That's something.

@DianneN - The insurance covered the tests until two weeks ago. After the Government introduced the mandatory "Green Pass" to go inside restaurants, bars, cinemas, museums.... long list and to get the Green Pass you need to be vaccinated or to have a negative test, they only cover the test for people with symptoms. The reason is that they want to incentive the non vaccinated to be vaccinated.
At least you have seen your son before Thanksgiving.
I like pizza time by time, but I cannot say that I am really a pizza lover, it shows that I am a "northern".

Faye told me the tests are free in pharmacies. No idea, but we scheduled ours through our doctor when we had physicals a few weeks ago. Our insurance handles the cost IF there is a cost, and Yale handles them along with our lab work.
Thanks. We really missed him, but he didn’t want to leave his girlfriend’s family stranded. He stopped to visit us Wednesday evening while waiting for a pizza to be delivered to his house, them had pizza with us on Friday night while Aniella was in NYC visiting her bff. He does love pizza!

@nela13 I’d be fearful if my parents were still here, too. Now, our sons worry about us. We are fully vaccinated and received our boosters. Being smart when out in public. Unfortunately, there are so many idiots in the US, mostly Trump supporters, who don’t believe covid is real. My nephew is just one of them.

I hope Ice Princess doesn’t get any “surprises” after the team diagnosis.
And I’m sorry you didn’t get to have the entire family together at once, but I do understand the “abundance of caution” being taken.

Some companies are going to make their employees get tested ( the unvaccinated) on a regular basis.

@DianneN That's sad he couldn't come. Did he email or call and say what he did on Thanksgiving?

@LeaPea2417 He came to visit Wednesday evening and came for dinner on Friday. lol
His girlfriend spent the night in NYC visiting her friend.
He had a nice Thanksgiving hosting her mother and brother.
Must admit it was a much better Thanksgiving than last year when we saw no one.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Did you host? Your mother?

I'm happy that at least it was in 2 groups and no one had to be alone.
There's free testing here, available at most pharmacies ...
Anyway I hope Ice Princess's friend will be ok

That’s true and the point of two groups. I’m having the others here for dinner another time. Her mom wants to see our house lol.
I didn’t know that about testing. We have gotten test through our insurance provider at Yale.
Thanks! Her friend is feeling much better. She needs to be vaccinated like her parents

@FayeHazel That’s sweet to re-do Thanksgiving with your mother. You are a wonderful daughter!
I’ll check out two pharmacies when I next go to get more information. My grandson had his second shot today. So happy for him.

@DianneN True... mom and I re-did Thanksgiving yesterday, it's just as nice on another day :-)
Oh yeah, though now I wonder if this is just a regional thing? But yeah most pharmacies and a few other locations here will do the tests for free. It was really easy but they book out pretty far in advance.
