MyLotter George (@Deepizzaguy) has written many good news discussions and some have been about people being saved from choking through the use of the Heimlich manoeuvre. I knew that, late in his life, Heimlich had saved someone by using his own technique.
When I researched Henry Heimlich, I discovered he was born in 1920 and was an American thoracic surgeon and medical researcher. After medical school, he served with the US Navy in China during World War II. The Heimlich manoeuvre which is credited to him, involves a series of abdominal thrusts which may dislodge an obstruction that is causing choking.
He also invented a flutter valve (Heimlich valve) which allows drainage from the chest cavity. This invention is credited with saving hundreds of lives of US soldiers during the Vietnam War.
And an interesting side note: he was drum major of the Cornell Big Red Marching Band while at Cornell University.
The photo shows a bird of paradise flower.

What beautiful information, about Henry Heimlich! He has been instrumental in saving lives of people, that he never even met! One time my mother was choking on food and she couldn't breathe. My father had just taken a course at the hospital, to learn the Heimlich maneuver. He proceeded to use this method, which dislodged the food in my mother's airway:)

Pretty interesting..my mother did the Heimlich on me once, when I was choking on a small piece of candy as a teen. I didn't spit it out, but I guess it worked. I stopped choking. Interestingly enough, I was laughing when I was listening to a story of a non fatal choking incident, which caused the problem in the first place.

Very lovely flower, I discovered something myself being in Australia perhaps you know the TV show Happy Days, Well one of the actors Anson Williams is a relative of Heimlich, Here is the info from the Internet just thought you might be interested,
Williams was born Anson William Heimlich to a Jewish family. His father, Haskell Heimlich, legally changed the spelling of the family name to "Heimlick", unlike Williams' uncle, Dr. Henry Heimlich, namesake of the Heimlich maneuver for treating choking victims.
