Is it believable?

Didn't used apps or trackers to measure my step count before, but for a few days I was thinking about why not try out this new piece of tech. Before buying any standalone and dedicated wearable devices for such things, I saw that my smartphone keeps track of those things. Today I did the most no of steps since I started using this device, but I still can't believe the numbers shown on the screen. I was walking maybe like 10 mins, but these numbers seemed so big to me. I guess maybe a wearable gadget would provide far better readings and I am very skeptical about the phone's inbuilt sensors.

These gadgets & apps give result's only based on the vibration. So it won't be accurate on most of the cases. If you try moving your hand, it does takes it as a one step count. NOTHING IS ACCURATE.

You are right on that. Maybe, on a rough average, 5 steps can be treated as 1, as 4 of them going to be false readings.

@Sojourn Ignore these calculations. Just walk as much you can and stop at the point where you need rest or walk based on the timing restriction.

I looked at the counter while walking and counting myself and my phone seems accurate.

@Sojourn Keep it in your hand while walking, mentally count your steps and check if it's calculating correctly.

I will do it again to verify its accuracy.

Even I use my phone to keep track of my steps. I'm surprised most of the times

I never tried that, but I come to know there are some apps which claims to pay for walking, they count steps.

Yes, there are apps like that I have heard. I haven't tried anyone though.

It's hard to know how accurate these would be but perhaps they're not too far out.

@Sojourn I would have thought so but I don't have any experience with them.

I think distance is the most accurate measure you can get.

Yes, they can be measured by the GPS coordinates.

It's relativity. They calculate your steps based on your motion vs time taken. And in most of application it does the same thing. Try to walk on edges of 15cmby 15cm tile and tell me if your application shows any difference in number of steps. Gadgets like fitness band can be accurate compared to mobile phones at least as those got multiple sensors to track your motion
