Ice + Cream = Tooth Extraction

It looks like the equation is more appealing to kiddies who do not want to have a tooth extraction. I used to hear this from adults when I was a child. "After your tooth extraction from a dentist, you will have an ice cream." Since I am an adult, I am passing the same statement to my niece who had her tooth extraction today. Her dentist started to clear out her milk teeth. Do you also eat ice cream after having a tooth extraction? Image Credit: media.istockphoto.com

No... I never wanted anything cold in my mouth after having a tooth pulled.

I cannot remember if I do not like having an ice cream after my tooth extraction before. All I know, I always had after going to the dentist. The dentist was my granddad before.

@Shavkat When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was 15 years old. Mom made mashed potatoes for me to eat. They were warm. As an adult, I've had two teeth extracted. I've made myself mashed potatoes to eat afterward.

Yeah, because I've been used to it since I was a kid, so now I've done that too.

Indeed. It is also the same culture as ours in the Philippines. Are you from the Philippines, too?

@strawberrypink Indeed. The cold principle applies when eating ice cream.

@Shavkat I'm from Indonesia, but my family also knows this culture.Because, ice cream is a soft food so it can be a choice of food that can be consumed after tooth extraction. The cold sensation can minimize swelling in the area around the tooth extraction.

At my age, I prefer something in 100 proof after an extraction. I never had an extraction of my primary teeth. They fell out on their own. Cashed them in with the Tooth Fairy.

I am glad that you wait the milk teeth fell off on their own. I also made a joke with her about why she did not ask for the extracted milk tooth and give it to the Tooth Fairy.

The milk teeth fall off on their own, why are they need to get extracted in your niece's case?

She needs to undergo such a dental procedure in preparation for having braces. The milk teeth are interfering with the growth of the permanent ones.

Ice water is fine to counteract the swelling.

No, I only had my wisdom teeth removed (2 out of 4) a few years ago, no ice cream.
