Is It Alan Allan Allen or Alain?

Just thought about the name Allan. That's the common spelling here with two Ls, like the author and poet Edgar Allan Poe who we were introduced to in school. However, I've also come across different spellings like Alan, for the American actor Alan Alda of the old TV show M*A*S*H. Then there's Allen with an E, which I like better because it sounds better. Interestingly, I have a female cousin named Allen, actually. But I also like the name Alain, and heard it first also when I was young because of a French car racer named Alain Prost. Which spelling is most familiar to you and where you live?

As I lived in France during 31 years it is Alain for me. Alain Berset is a Swiss politician now serving as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council.

They may be variations of the same name. May be they are spelt differently for male and female. Come to Our place in Bengal. You will see one name spelt in four to five ways and they are all correct they say!
