What are you making for Christmas dinner?

Pretty and I decided we didn't want to do a traditional Christmas meal this year. (We've got both smoked turkey and a ham in the freezer but neither one sound "good" to us right now.) We decided on shawarma this year.
I know shawarma is normally eaten as a wrap, but I'm not crazy about wraps. (That is how Pretty prefers to eat it, though.) I'd rather just have the chicken and veggies on my plate like a regular meal. YUMMMM!

I’m not cooking anything. My son and daughter in law are bringing my Christmas dinner and I’m having Christian eve dinner with my other son and daughter in law. We’ve called off our regular Christmas dinner. There so many of us and this new covid is spreading fast. Well have a family dinner later on.

We'll be eating beaftip tortelini for dinner this year. We bought the supplies for it, today.

I've never tried tortellini made with beef. (The last time I made it we used some of the smoked turkey. It was really good.)
That sounds like a good meal.

Yesterday, we passed by Shawarma restaurant. Everytime I pass and see that parking still avaialble, I will stop by and buy 2 - 3 whole chicken roasted. But yesterday, I wonder why their grill not run, and then they informed there's no chicken grilled as its holiday, so they didnt have any chicken stock...
So this morning, we make Hainan rice to make up :-)

I'll be putting more shawarma into the oven at around 1 am. You can come by and have some with us. I'd even give you some to take home with you.
Most restaurants are closed in the US on major holidays so the employees there can spend time with their families.

@Vree0937 I put most of the shawarma left over into individual serving Ziploc baggies and put them into the freezer for later... I left some in the fridge for us to eat over the next couple of days. (I think there are nine Ziploc bags of it in the freezer now. I can give you some of those to take home. )
Pretty is coughing and running a fever last night. If she still feels bad today, I'll suggest we take her to get a Covid test. I'm worried about her.

I guess I think of shawarma as a wrap too, but I wouldn't mind it unwrapped ! We really kept it simple for Christmas . . . just crockpotted a beef roast for my parents . . . and did the same for us. Happy New Year to you and Pretty!

Thanks. I put over half of the shawarma into the freezer in individual serving baggies if you want to come by and take some home with you. I have no idea for thighs. We don't eat dark meat.

I just pulled another pan of shawarma out of the oven. When it cools down I'll pack it into Ziploc baggies and freeze it for meals later.

@DaddyEvil Shawarma is unknown here, unless you can find a Turkish restaurant that makes it correctly following the traditional recipe (that is always with Lamb).
We had it often in Monte Carlo because we used to go to an original Turkish restaurant that was very good, they served on a plate and not in a flat Arab bread. I have a chicken vertical roaster and I arrive to reproduce a pretty good shawarma at home.

You're right. What's on my plate is from a recipe Pretty found online and we like it. This is made with white, yellow and sweet onion mixed with bell peppers, sliced then spiced and baked in the oven. The chicken is marinated in plain Greek yogurt with spices mixed in for four hours. Then the chicken is put onto a baking sheet with the veggies around it and baked for an hour.
That meal is traditional where you live or is traditional for you and your hubby?

That looks delicious. I like shawarma too.
For me, we had the usual 'pancit palabok" (dry noodles with sauce), fried chicken, fruit salad, cake, choco fudge, and shrimp.
I ate a whole big slice of the cake and some palabok and I'm full until now. Merry Christmas.

Sometimes I like a bowl of peaches and a long time ago I actually would buy ice cream so I'd have ice cream with the peaches @DaddyEvil
No, when mom passed it lost it's meaning and now I have no traditions. Besides, who would I pass them down to, my kritters??

@rebelann I'll eat fresh peaches when I can get them but I can't most of the time. I buy a half gallon of ice cream a month. Pretty usually eats most of it before I get around to getting some.
I was thinking maybe you fixed something special for the furbabies.
