Grow your own food

The lockdowns caused by the Covid pandemic hit us hard last year. That was the same time I started to think about growing our own food here at home. We started small by planting some ginger and turmeric. After that, we also grew our own tomatoes and some chilis for our personal consumption. We also planted a few more vegetables to complement the first set.
At first, we only intended to make it as a hobby with my wife and my kids taking care of the crops - watering them, making sure that we also put in organic fertilizer. When the wet season came in last year, it speed up the growth of our plants and eventually we had our first harvest. It was worth while and finally I can say we are eating some really fresh and organic food. One thing I was not able to do: Compute how much savings we had from harvesting our produce. It may not be that much but then I realized that our hobby has indeed become a stable supply of vegetables. At the end of the day, nothing beats fresh food harvested from your back yard heading straight to your kitchen.

The vegetables that you buy at the grocery stores are mostly grown with chemical fertilizers that are not really good for the plants of our bodies. But organically grown vegetables have more going for them including not the harsh chemicals that are found in grocery stores.

Yes, you are correct about that fresh food coming in from the backyard. I have had gardens in the past but we don't have a yard where we live now. We live in the woods and don't have an area to plant. I tried growing tomatoes in pous a few years ago but after getting only one tomato from the 3 plants, these disgusting horn worms attacked our tomato plants while we were away for a few days and they killed the plants. I was so sad. I may try again this year. Enjoy the vegetables.

If you have a space to grow your vegetables, such as a garden, it will be great. I don''t have it since I live in the apartment. Now I soak the beans and eat the sprouts. It is a good idea for a person who doesn't have a space to grow vegetables like me
