I Will Never be on a Fixed Income

United States

I learned a long time ago that it is always helpful to have at least one extra source of income. When I have had full-time jobs it seems I have always had something on the side to bring in extra money. In my jobs as a social worker in the past, I had regular paychecks which always had the same amount of money in them every 2 weeks. I never liked that feeling that that was all there was. I liked to have options to make more. When I was working as a social worker with abused children, I also worked nights as a waitress so I could pay for graduate school classes. When I did home daycare I also made crafts and sold them at craft shows for extra money. When I had a job at a high school, I always did other things to earn money like selling Avon products. Now I work from home doing a few different things which include selling on eBay, freelance writing and selling my photos and artwork online. So, when it comes time for me to collect social security, as long as my brain is still functioning, I still want to be earning extra money on the side. I like the feeling that I have control over my finances and always have the opportunity to earn extra money. It bothers me when people say "I am on a fixed income" like they don't have enough money and can't do anything about it. If you are one of those people, please don't be offended by this post. It's just my opinion. Are you on a fixed income? Do you have another job or do something on the side to earn extra money?

@wolfgirl569 So there you go, you will not ever have to be on a fixed income either if you have ways of earning extra money.

@Sreekala Does that mean you have various ways of earning money, not just one? Or are you not earning money at the present time?

I am not having a fixed income. It varies if how many students I teach for a day to 15th day. I also have other stunts in earning some extra cash.

@Kouponkaren I do agree with you. We can aim for more than the fixed salary in a particular city like my situation right now.

@Shavkat Then you aren't on a fixed income either. It feels good to know we have some control over how much money we earn, doesn't it?

@jstory07 Ah, a kindred spirit. :0) What do you sell on eBay? I was selling mostly men's and women's clothing and shoes but am getting away from that and am leaning toward vintage items, like old Christmas decorations, and things from the 1930s up through the 1960s.

You are a hard working person. And I can totally relate to it. Even I always try to keep doing things to have some extra income on top of my salary. Extra income doesn't hurt. We all love it.

It's definitely a good thing to do. I do work part time at the front desk of a yoga studio, but also working on ways to make some extra money on the side. Always good to have different options.

@dodo19 Yes I agree. For me, it feels like I have freedom. The freedom to earn more money if I so choose.

I so agree with you. You are a hard-working person. I have a tutoring business then I also work as a language teacher. I have been working on my 3rd source of income. I am so positive, I can do it this year.

@Faster16 Oh, you write books? What type? And do you self-publish your books? Are they paperback or online books? Please tell me more. Or write a post about it? I have wanted to write a book for a long time but don't know how to get started.
