Tornado Passing Over

I was watching Dr. Phil about an hour ago when my son called to tell we had a tornado coming. I had just heard the same news on TV. I stepped out on the deck and the wind was blowing and sirens were squalling. My son advised me to grab pillows, phone and flashlight and coat and go in the bathroom. Close the door and sit down in the floor and cover my head.
I grabbed everything including my purse and went into the bathroom. I grabbed a book on my way and settled down on the bathroom floor to read. My son and his wife were on their way to the basement when he called. I must admit I was shaken up.
After about a half hour later he called and said the tornado passed over without touching down. I turned on the TV hoping to hear if it touched down and where, but haven’t heard yet.

I know that is beyond scary especially when you are alone. When I was in AZ many yrs. ago, my hubby was away working late in the evening. and the mobile home we lived in began to shake from wind and things were falling and blowing around outside. I called my husband and he told me to do the same as your son told you and he was on the way home. It stopped after about an hour, and he called to say he got stuck with trees down on the road and it was over so stop stressing. I walked out on our back porch to see our neighbor come out on hers who had been alone also. We made a deal to call and check on each other and get together if it ever happened again. In AZ they call them Microbursts.

@RubyHawk well we was in that last big hurricane here in Florida a few yrs. ago. That was the scariest. Things was hitting the house and sounded like a train coming at us. But at least I had my daughter and it was in the other house which was better then this one.

Your experience sounds worse than mine. I had a tornado go over our house before. It. Twisted off tree tops in our yard, damaged our roof and shattered the windows in our car. Houses around us were damaged and a town above us was almost destroyed. That was scary.

It's lucky you survived and weren't hurt. Those things can come fast and hard.

We had one pass over a couple years ago, it dipped down and tore the top off one tree, then went back up. The sky to the north was various shades of pink! We've never experience anything like this since. Thank God, you and your son's family were kept safe

@RubyHawk We had five touch down a few years ago. They touched down in the forest, then traveled out over Lake Huron. Nobody was injured or killed.

@kobesbuddy Wow, That’s a lot of tornadoes. I’ve only been in one and it blew away house and downed fields of trees. It came just over our house, It damaged our roof, broke the windows out of our cars and twisted tops of trees off in our yard.

I'm glad you didn't get to see the tornado and took precautions, just in case.

@DocAndersen I did have three good sons but my middle son passed away just over a year ago and my youngest son is away at work so that leaves my son that lives near me.

That's scary. I'm afraid of tornadoes. Does it cause a lot of damage?
