My Hair

I've talked to some of you about letting my hair grow out because a friend is going through Chemo. She asked me to grow it out so she could have it for a wig. Pretty took a picture of it still damp from the shower and again after it dried. Some of you said you'd like to see it or asked other questions, so I thought I'd let you see my hair.
I was going to upload them as a collage, but don't know how to do that and am NOT interested in learning!
DE's hair. Photo is mine.

The hair looks good. Is this picture of the dried hair?

Thanks. No, that's the one where my hair is still damp. I'll add the one of my hair dry to this comment.
Photo is mine.

@DaddyEvil That's a lot of hair. If I wash my hair and do not go to the salon to have it blown out I end up with a big head of hair.

My daughter-in-law did the opposite of what you're doing. Kristine shaved her head, when their friend was going through Chemotherapy.

She wanted to show that bald was beautiful. So her friend didn't have to feel alone and singled out. That's really nice of her.
I wouldn't have shaved my head for our friend but I don't have a problem growing my hair out so she can have it.

@kobesbuddy When the stylist cut off my mullet when I was in my 30s, she donated my hair to Locks of Love. Pretty donates hers every couple of years.

@DaddyEvil I donated my hair twice for Locks of Love. They cut I believe twelve-fourteen inches off the bottom. Then, she cut my hair into a nice style. I'd never shave my head, as an act of love!

@DaddyEvil hmm I see the dry photo but it still doesn’t look red to me. My husband tells me often though that I’m color blind . It is so nice of you to be willing to grow out your hair for your friend to have it made into a wig. You have such a kind soul! I just cut about 6 inches off my hair a week ago and it’s still hurting my head to wear it up so I cut about the same off again after my shower just now. It’s still halfway down my back.

@shaggin Several people have told me it doesn't look red on this discussion. *shrug* I'm not a doctor so recommend they see an optometrist...
Pretty already had hers cut and gave it to her. (Our friend was crying when we saw her because she lost her beautiful hair... How could I say no to her?)
Hmm... were you aware you can sell your hair? It's a beautiful shade of red and people would give you a lot of money for it online. (Pretty sold her hair once when she was in college and got almost $1,000 for it. If you decide to do that, don't let the person cut your hair or meet them to get the money. Make them send you the money first and then mail the hair to them. Pretty said some girls at the college she attended had bad experiences selling their hair. I'm glad she insisted on mailing her hair to the person who bought it.)

Thanks. I've never needed/wanted to make a collage before and can't imagine I'll ever wish I could do it again.
I posted the photo of my hair dry in Lena's box on this discussion. It could be the person taking the photo, too. Pretty doesn't use a camera often.

@Juliaacv Thank you.
As a younger man, I wore a mullet from 18 until I was 30. My hair was down to my waist when wet and the curls pulled it up to the bottom of my shoulder blades as it dried.

@DaddyEvil it could be my computer. I still have not learned after all this time to set things right.
I still can not fix the small print where I can see my bookmarks and short cuts better
so it could be a setting is not right for photo colors

Tell your friend to check at the American Cancer Society. They sell wigs without any profit.
By the time your hair grows, her own hair will be growing again. The American Cancer Society also sells beautiful head wraps and hats. I know because I bought some from them.

Oh wow, DE . . . you have the most beautiful hair ! My daughter has similar curls . . . I wish you could tell her how to tame them like you have here. How long are you going to grow it out? I guess some of those places where you donate say like 10 inches or something like that. How wonderful you are dong this for your friend !

@DaddyEvil I am telling you my daughter's hair is a lot like yours . . . I showed her your pic and she said YEP! May I ask what brand you use . . . because I went to the store and there were a gazillion of them - I couldn't really decide on which one .
I hope your friend can get her wig soon. I didn't realize it would take several donations of hair, but I guess it does need to cover a lot.

@much2say Oops! My mistake... Humectant was the last one Pretty and I tried. The one I'm using now is called Infusium 23 Leave in Moisturizing. It makes it easier to comb and holds up better than the Humectant. We got it at Walmart.

Thank you.
Mine only looks like this when it's still damp. After it dries, it starts trying to fly away. I can tame it for a while using Humectant Spray-On, Leave In conditioning spray. But if I fiddle with it or get into too much wind, then it looks like I haven't even combed my hair that day.
Our friend normally wears her own hair fairly short, so she said 10 inches will still leave her with 7 inches showing on the scalp. (She asked several other people about donating their hair, too. Somebody told her she'd need several donations for them to make one wig.)

She's a good friend. I hope she likes wearing the wig she'll have made from it. It still has to grow a lot more before it'll be long enough to make a wig from it.
I think the lighting wasn't good enough to show the color right.

@Hannihar The part that gets cut off has to be at least 10 inches (25.4 cm) before it will be long enough to make into a wig. My hair still has a ways to grow first.
Yes, I wore it long from the time I was 18 until I was in my 30s.

Thank you. Once I passed my teen years without starting to lose any hair, I quit worrying about going bald. (The brother four years older than me started losing his hair in High School. Now he just has a fringe around his head. )
