November 2020 both my cats died within a week of each other and left my heart in tatters and my emotional state crippled, but a lost and forlorn little kitten found its way to us even though I was not nearly ready to love any pet again. She was so tiny when she was found that her gender was not obvious, so I named her Pepè. Scrawny and withered from the elements, we bathed her, had her inoculated and held her close so she knew she was safe and at a ‘forever’ home. Pepè is now a year old and is wild at heart, loves the garden especially the trees to climb. I have found much love and joy having her but I believe she senses the void I still have from the loss of Picasso and Talu. Do you think that there should be a certain amount of time to mourn the loss of a loved pet before blessing ones home with another?

Maybe little Pepe turned up at just the right time. Cats seem able to find the owner that needs them. She is a very pretty little cat.

She has an almost ‘cleopatra’ eye markings look about her. I do love her dearly now

@Inlemay She is really lovely. I keep trying to decide which colour cat I like best but they are all gorgeous. My sister's cat is tabby and white but has a cute smudge on her nose.

She's adorable. I got a new dog a month before I needed to put Rascal down. I was very happy I had Pip when he passed. It helped ease the pain. That was many years ago now. Pip is gone too and left a huge hole in my heart.

@Inlemay No, it doesn't. I'm thinking about getting a new dog.

Well, it kind of depends on the person. However, I feel it even more depends on the need. Little Pepe needed at home, someone to take her and love her and protect her. I have lost 2 cats in less than a week several times. Granted, every one of those times I had more cats at home. It is hard, so hard, to lose them like that.

@inlemay When we came back from holiday at the end of November 2021 we found both my wife's beloved cats drowned in the garden. It was no accident, and I have strong suspicions about who did it. My wife and daughter were totally distraught. My wife immediately said she needed to get another cat but I put my foot down firmly and said no in a very masterful way, so she got another cat. Of course she did. She's still devastated about what happened and still bursts into tears and not everyone understands that. But now we have Merlot, a rescus cat, although the other two cats have not been forgotten and are so missed.

Oh I love your support comment. I don’t think we ever forget those cats who lets paw prints in our hearts
