With the cold and temperatures in the 20's our dog, Duke got to spend the night inside with us. The first night my husband said that he is not getting on the bed. I just held my snicker on that one. Duke is a German Shepard and weighs right at 100 lbs.
First Night - He comes in and the first thing he does is jump up on the bed. Hubby tells him to get down. Duke just stares at him. He sits down and then spreads out and gets comfy. The End.
Second Night- Duke comes in and jumps on the bed and goes and lays his head on a pillow. I told him he was on my pillow and needed to move over. He moved. He still slept on the bed for most of the night but moved to the floor sometime during the night.
Third night- Duke hops on the bed and watches television and plays a bit, He got a little nap while we watched television and was much calmer tonight. I think he is getting used to this. He ended up moving to the floor early and has been crashed for the last 30 minutes.
The photo is of Duke when he was a baby.

I don't mind as long as he stays at the foot of the bed. He gets in the middle and lays sideways which takes up half of the bed. That doesn't work. Each night he has pulled his comforter from the floor onto the bed. So, we have plenty of covers piled up...lol.

That is a cute photo of Duke, Poor dog just wants to be warm but as I always said to all my cats how in the world can you be cold when you have a fur coat and I don't but they always looked for warmth, With the cold here in Florida now I wish I had a cat I would wrap him around my neck to keep warm

I am SO GLAD you let Duke in when it's cold. So many people do not.

@LindaOHio I know. Those people should be charged with cruelty to the animal. And of course very few get turned in.

@kareng The thought of a pet out in the bitter cold makes me angry and sick to my stomach.

@mildredtabitha He tears them all up! I've tried with 3-4 different kind and not cheap ones either. I just save old comforters for him now. He likes them and doesn't totally destroy them.

My guess is Duke is not going to like returning back outside at the end of this.

I'm sure the chickens would be roosting on your bed if they were inside, too.

@DaddyEvil There won't be any chickens roosting in the house, they have their own hen house!

@kareng Yeah, I'd throw the bedspread away if chickens roosted on it.

My daughter made it clear to her dog Parker that he would not be sleeping in the beds. That lasted all of about 2 days. He now sleeps with her in her bed every night! Thankfully, he's a small dog!

we lost that battle 10 years ago. Dylan decided day one he slept on our bed. so he has for 10 years. He even drags a pillow down to sleep on!

Hey, equal rights!! It's amazing at what they do sometimes. I thought it was odd that Duke pulled his comforter on the bed two nights in a row. Yet he still had a nap on the floor both nights. Last night he slept on the floor as much as he did in the bed.

@DocAndersen I gave up on dog beds after he destroyed 4 of them. Tried an old comforter folded into a square and that works. He loves it and doesn't shred it.

He is a big boy!! And no, I cannot pick him up anymore. He's so big I had to spend some extra time with training to get him to stop jumping on me wanting me to play. We accomplished that with a hand signal and I laugh when he does that to my husband. I have told him to give the hand signal first thing so he knows not to do it.
