A man prone to accidents

I learnt something fascinating a few days ago and just had to share it with you. This man seemingly had a number of lives. The time line and some of the factual details vary a bit depending on which resource you’re consulting but the first incident occurred at age 3 when he fell down three flights of stairs (one resource says ‘three floors’) hitting his head on a stone floor/pavement at the bottom and was believed dead. He drank acidic water thinking it was milk, swallowed a needle which passed through him without doing any damage, and fell onto a burning stove receiving severe burns to his side. At 10, he was discovered floating face down in a river but later regained consciousness. A container of gunpowder exploded in his father’s workshop and blew him across the room, a slate fell off a roof and hit him on the head, and he almost asphyxiated from sleeping in a room where varnished furniture was drying. That seems to be all but I should think that would be enough. I’ll write more about his achievements later as his name was Adolphe Sax, the Belgian inventor and musician whose main claim to fame was the creation of the saxophone.

You wouldn't think so much could happen to one person.

That poor guy . His life was hardly worth living with all those accidents and the pain that went with them.

Talk about bad luck following this guy around. He sure got lucky. Some of those things should've killed him.

Any one of them could have been fatal so really he was probably luckier than he was unlucky.

It's hardly credible. Here, we would say 'He must have killed a Chinaman' to have that much bad luck. Have you heard that saying?
