What city changed your life?

I found this question in a message board and I was expecting people to answer city names they’ve been to and how or why their lives have changed. But it cracked me up when I read answers like scarCITY and toxiCITY and plastiCITY.
Of course, it makes sense. Scarcity can indeed change our life. It wills us to work harder and improve our situation. Toxicity is bad but it can change our perspective in life. Either we choose to be in a toxic environment with toxic people or get out of that orbit.
But how about you? Can you answer the question above?
Photo is of me in the city that changed my life.

I've only lived in two cities in my entire life... Neither acted on me in a way that changed anything about me.
Beautiful photo and avatar.

Electricity.
That is one of the two cities that changed my life. Both are related.
The other was Danbury, Wisconsin back in 1969.
My parents had a cabin on a lake in Danbury. We lived in a city of 110k.
Danbury listed 78 as it's population on the city limits sign.
The cabin my parents bought was the house where a family lived for years. There was no electricity, no indoor plumbing and cardboard was the only thing that covered the studs of the walls.
The cardboard walls were covered with stories like.... I Saw A Deer Today -John April, 16th 1953 or I Caught Two Bass Today -Tim October 1st 1959 or were several sentences describing their day. It was a diary of their lives there written on the walls of the cabin.
Here I was a city kid with all the things a city kid had, reading about the hand pump for water being frozen for a week in the winter and a younger sister being lost in a snowstorm while walking to the outhouse and that they were happy with their new ice box. ICE BOX for crying out loud.
I learned a lot reading those stories and knew very young what a hard life could be. I couldn't imagine no electricity or hot water. It was fun for a cabin but to LIVE that way? How did they survive?
Whenever I catch myself complaining, I try to think back at how things were for that family and those kids.
So I guess Danbury, Wisconsin changed my life too.

Every city I have lived in changed my life. The city where I studied nurtured me to be good in my profession.
The city where I practiced my profession provided me the means to support my family, and the city where I'm retired right now, has kept me safe during this pandemic era.
So, I can choose one. feliCity!

I was born and raised in NYC but the city that definitely changed my life was Riga, Latvia where I met my soulmate and stayed for 20 years and when he passed on it was so difficult to leave everything behind and return to the US but I had painful memories,

@sol_cee and I know I will see him again someday, It was rather interesting I would not have moved to Latvia if my mom was not already 80 and wanted to return to her homeland, Then I decided to do that for her and as it was she only lived for two more years in Latvia but I stayed because I had met my saul mate and it things had turned out different I would still be there,

@stewartclint I understand what you mean. I hope you can go to New Orleans and play jazz music there

@sol_cee My aunt went, not I. It was the stories she brought back with her that had an impact on me. Particularly that it was the birthplace of jazz got me interested in that genre, and I still am.

I wish I could, but I can't. I've only been to/lived in a handful of places. And, all have had their ups and downs.

I think the city which had a big impact on me was going to college in Columbus, Ohio. Huge campus and a major city it made me more extroverted. I tried out new things, joined recreational activities with friends and grew up a lot. Definitely not Toxicity, lol.

That's a beautiful photo of you. I can also say scarcity but I have lived in around five cities in my town but I won't give them any credit of changing my life
