One of the perks of getting old

We went to the chemist this morning and got our booster covid shots. The chemist is situated in a huge shopping complex and trying to find a carpark can be horrendous unless you want to walk a long way.
But we struck lucky this morning and managed to score one of six seniors’ parking bays. We were familiar with ACROD parking (for those with disabilities) but we hadn’t come across seniors’ bays until we came to Perth to live. I presume they have them at other shopping centres. The ACROD and seniors’ bays are all quite close to one of the entries to the centre.
It’s a good idea, don’t you think?

That's a great feature. Here it's disability parking which includes seniors sometimes. Lowes Home Improvement has a few veterans parking spaces which my husband qualifies for.

I think it is...we have handicapped parking spaces, and sometimes parking for those who are pregnant, but no senior parking. I think they should have that. Unless you have difficulty walking and have a doctor's note and placard, you can not use handicapped parking or risk a big fine.

Glad that you got proper parking at the right time.
So far we rarely see special Seniors Parking except for may be in some elite hotels.
Yet as with other trends, this too might be more common in the coming days.

Not in most of the places I know.
But yes, some malls have different washrooms for the disabled.

Newer guidelines are coming up for such facilities but society as a whole is not getting into a supporting mindset.

There aren't many perks, you have to make the most of them!
It's good that they are available, but whether you should use them or not unless you really have to - that's another question. You walk less, you lose fitness, you lose muscle mass and bone density, you are less able to walk, you walk less....

Exactly. I'm always at Vince to just park and we'll walk the bit extra but it seems to be a matter of pride to park as close as possible. But we're going to have to start walking more because of Vince's AtFib. Exercise seems to be the best thing to do.

My arm that I got it in was very sore the day I got it and it hurt but then put ben gay on and helped and then got less and then my left arm started bothering me. Maybe it was my shoulder that is not ok sympathizing with the right one. I hope what you took for your headache helped you feel better.

I think that's great. I remember when I broke my hip and I could use handicapped parking for around 3 months. When my time run out, I had to park were ever I could find a free place, even though it was still hard for me to walk. So I can see were a senior parking area would be great for those that need to park close, but can't park in a handicapped parking area.

@JudyEv It was while I was still having to use the walker, after I started using a cain it wasn't as bad. A lot of times when I had to park way back in the parking lot, I would get a buggy from the return area and push it so I would have something to hold on to.

@sweetashoney Using the buggy as a support was a good idea.

It's a shame you weren't able to use the handicapped parking for a bit longer. That must have been tough.

@JudyEv - I think that is a fabulous idea! My husband is weak and cannot walk too far, so he has a handicapped placard that we can hang from our rearview mirror, which allows us to park in handicapped parking. But he has to be with me. So, when I am driving by myself, I have to park wherever I can find a spot ... which is sometimes a good long walk for me. There's an advantage to having him run errands with me!

@JudyEv - I agree! My friends and I were so worried about her when we found out she had a $1000 fine. It was a few months before the court hearing, but we were all happy the judge overturned the fine. Sometimes people just need a little compassion.

@DeborahDiane Poor soul. I'm glad the judge let her off. You would have enough on your mind at the point without having a fine as well.

Another perk for seniors in our country is a 20% discount on food, medicine and services. Same discount too for taking the bus or boat.

We get discounts on some medicines and some services. Our car and driving licences are a bit cheaper too. It all helps when you're getting older.

That's a thoughtful idea. I have seen some parking for disabled people here. Anyway our country is not at all organized and planned for car parkings. At least now all the new infrastructures come with parking space. Cars were not so common here in old days. But now each family has a minimum of one car.

@arunima25 There are town planning rules here now. For every x square feet of building, you have to have y feet of parking space.

Yes it is. We get disability placards from the state as long as you get a prescription for it from a doctor. It allows you to park in one of the handicap parking spaces usually provided.

in our place there is no such parking space like that, all get the same parking space, so sometimes seniors have to walk far

I haven't seen this very often but we haven't had to go shopping here very much.
