Parody of the song 'These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things'

Youngsters who think we've no brains now we're older
don't realise that these years can be golder
they look at us and assume things are grim
these are a few of my unfavourite things.
At times we might have some trouble in coping
(child-proof containers can prove hard to open )
hearing is waning and eyesight is dim
these are a few of my unfavourite things.
Gadgets will often confuse not delight us
bodies are riddled with that danged arthritis
my flesh is sagging and now I'm not slim
these are a few of my unfavourite things.
Despite all these things that I've been bemoaning
now I am done with the griping and groaning,
my heart's full of joy and I can still sing
these are a few of my favourite things.
Lunches with girlfriends and I can spend hours
reading or writing or tending my flowers
if I'm inclined I will follow a whim
these are a few of my favourite things.
When the sun shines,
when the birds sing
when I'm drinking wine
I simply forget all unfavourite things
and then I just feel so fine.
I did another parody of this song a few years ago but this one is completely different.

@jaboUK no, I just want to hear the flow of the song. Don't worry, I won't listen to your voice, only the words

@mildredtabitha You could look the song up online - I think it's from 'The Sound Of Music'.

@jaboUK Funnily enough l had a memory of Barry turn up the other day. It made me smile as l thought about you too. You were a brilliant pair bouncing off each other with your words. He used to say l should be a tax exile being out of the country more than l was in it!!!

@garymarsh6 Oh yes, there'll always be a gap where Barry was.

yes exactly how I feel. Except for tending flowers or going out with friends. My arthritis and breathing keeps me from those. But I can do what I want on my computer when it co operates and watch what I want on tv any time

What I like about old age, well, people become more helpful. They are willing to lift things for me, give their seat in buses when I have to travel by bus. They give preference to me in shops. There are tax rebates too. My hair is graying, and it is difficult to lie that I am 50. LOL. But I would not want to change its color, as yet, because I feel it would deny me a lot of benefits I am getting.

Every young person will get old, and they'll find another youngish person saying the same stuff they said years back to an oldie soul. Age is indeed just a passing number.

That is very good. You are very clever. I wonder what the other one was like.

Nice to read your poem again ! Your poem reminds me of the saying "youth is not a time of life,it is a state of mind".

Life is always worth living.
I heard a young one wondering what do old people think.
They think we are in a different world waiting for the inevitable.
Pleasures and happiness are not reserved only for the young.
The old have their own pastimes with more time in hand.
I try to make more judicial use of time left
