Underestimating Myself

I went shopping today as everytime I go off island that's my favourite past time. Since the holidays I've always felt fat and insecure. So today when I bought clothes I bought a size higher than I normally would. Surprisingly when I got home I found that a lot of what I bought is a size bigger. I'm very surprised to be honest as I feel fat. Maybe the clothes are larger than the standard size? I'm really baffled.

Different brands do have different sizes labeled as the same it seems. I have bought pants and blouses the very same size but by different manufacturers and found them to actually look and feel like they were different sizes

Yeah I find that all the brands I bought today seems to be bigger than usual. I definite have gained weight as my scales point out. I'm doing some returns tomorrow.

Sorry to laugh, but I always do the same, I buy too big and I have to bring back and buy a smaller size.

@LadyDuck Well I'm quite lazy to do fittings so I always come back returning them or I end up sending them to my sister back home.

@flapiz When I try on things at the stores, I always bring three sizes and it is always the smallest that fits.

Clothing numbers can be misleading. It also depends on the material. I can go to a size smaller in a pair of sweat pants, but a size or two higher in jeans. Only because sweat pants have more give and jeans don't.

Yeah I'm really getting to the point where I need to actually try them on now than relying to size.

@flapiz Same here. I have an idea of where I want to start, but I have to try on some materials .

It depends on the brands, standard size varies with every brand. You should not worry much and buy a size higher than yours or you can try them at the shop itself and if find suitable for you then buy them otherwise not.

I have a rule never to buy an extra large. I don't want to get comfy with that sizing.

@sjvg1976 yeah I'm happy some shops allow clothes fitting now. With the Covid some shops do not allow it.

@flapiz you can try it at the shop and check if you find it suitable or not and buy if you feel it's okay.

Sizes vary even within the same manufacturer. That’s why I prefer to try my clothes on in the store, which I haven’t done for two years.

Is it due to the pandemic?

It is too bad companies do this with the sizes. It is like a game they play. I am sure you look beautiful.

Oh bless you are too kind. I think they should standardise these sizes. Specially cause Covid times does not allow you to fit sometimes.

At times, different brands have different fits for the same size. For e. g - A Peter England Brand shirt size 42 would be a lot different than a Van Huesen shirt size 42. And same could be true for other brands as well.

Yeah I have 3 different brands all ending up too big on me. I'm wondering if they're trying to make sizes bigger to boost there customer's ego.

The sizing varies sometimes from brand to brand. Maybe you haven't put on as much weight as you thought. What do the scales say? (You don't have to tell me but are you heavier than what you used to be?)

I am 2 kilos heavier than my normal. But seems like I'm not as fat as I thought.

It depends on where the clothes are made l suppose. A medium size in some places would be small in others.

Yeah I'm normally a medium or a small but due to recent holiday I decided to go for mediums all throughout and well these mediums are quite huge.

It seems to me that you get a false idea that you are fat, however, it is the opposite, in my case the opposite happens to me, I get the idea that I am too thin but when I weigh myself, I am the same as always, measuring your weight daily can be a solution to know if you gain or lose weight.

Well the scales did say I was 2 kilos fat. Thus I picked a higher size. I'm surprised it was too small. Even the small size was too big so now I'm confused.
