Has anyone been to Zumba?

My myLot friends sometimes remark on how busy we are but I must give the wrong impression sometimes. From time to time we are busy but at other times, we have a lot of free time. We don’t exercise enough although we have started walking more regularly. Now, our community is offering Zumba Gold classes which they are saying is Zumba targeted to older people. Moving around to music (I hesitate to call it dancing) sounds like more fun than walking and we’ve put our names down to start early in March. It would take care of the exercise issue, especially if we combine it with the odd walk or two. Vince might also start going to golf again. We’ve found a club nearby where the fees are very reasonable. So has anyone tried Zumba before? The photo shows us on our wedding night. In our day, the bride and groom changed from their wedding clothes into ‘going away’ outfits.

Miss Judy. forgive me for this but everytime I hear of Zumba, I always think it is a dance of the old.

I don't zumba. I don't know how it is any different from dancercize. In fact, I don't know anything about it.

It's probably very similar to dancerize. I know very little about either of them.

I have not but I’d love to join a class if it were near and not expensive. Sounds like a lot of fun and good exercise. Is the picture you and Vince?

Yes, that was on our wedding night. You can see all the confetti. They don't allow confetti in most churches here now.

@JudyEv My Mum and my real Dad used to dance when they were courting. My Grandad, my Mum's Dad, was Sheriff of Lichfield for 3 years running so my Mum always went to the Sheriff's Ball and they used to dance there.

@sharonelton I do a quiz that involves finding 67 UK cities on a map and Lichfield is one of them.

Before the pandemic there was a free Zumba dance in the park in front of our house, I hope it would come back, I think It's good exercise for people of all ages. No I never tried to join in, I'm too shy for something like that, perhaps in a place where nobody knows me Nice picture.

@JudyEv Zumba in my place is not just for old people, I even saw young kids follow, there are also sexy ladies and yes elderly people, they don't seem to mind the age gap and distinction and everyone seems to be having fun. The only thing I observed is they are mostly females and some gays.

@louievill Zumba Gold will be a variation I think for elderly people. I know it can be a very energetic dance.

The good thing about these classes is that we are all old with various ailments so we'll be in much the same boat. I often don't join in things because I'm too shy but I'm better than I used to be.

That is a really cool photo, at first I thought the man you were dancing with was Steve Perry of the band Journey.

Are sideboards the same thing as sideburns?

@rebelann Yes, Actually I think I should have said sideburns, not sideboards. Sideboards are cupboards.

I have not, my cousin did and I told her to be careful, not to overdo, of course she did not listen and now she needs knee surgery. That said, be careful and do not overdo.

@JudyEv - Too much "jumping" on your knees is not good when we are seniors.

I will listen, Anna, and will be careful. Most people here have mobility issues so I think it will be okay. But if we think it is too strenuous, then we'll only go the once.

@LadyDuck I can't see us having to do any jumping. Some of the ladies have issues with knees and hips. And backs. I think it will be very gentle really.

I had joined zumba classes before the pandemic. It was fun with a group of friends, dancing and sweating. Our zumba instructor was cool and funny and she would make some sessions hilarious with all the crazy movements We also changed from our wedding dress to going away outfit. You two look so happy. Reminds me of retro romance of 70s and 80s.

@JudyEv Then even a little slower movement will be enough for your workout. Vince and you lead a very active life and I am sure that you outperform your age

I haven't tried it, but I think it is probably fun. I don't think I would enjoy it if the moves are too complicated though. I am generally the person going left when everyone else is going right and that sort of thing.

What a handsome couple you are. I went to an exercise class several years ago that included Zumba. Definitely not for seniors, and very fast-paced. I'm glad your class will be senior-oriented.

Vince is a bit concerned about it too although he has a good sense of rhythm. He will go to the first lesson and then decide if he'll continue with it.
