Human contact is so important

Today I was in town so I did a bit of shopping at the chemist. Unfortunately when I went to pay, the nice lady at the till upstairs said she had some problem and I would have to go to the downstairs tills instead, which are always much busier. But she did get me a basket and was very helpful.
But when I got downstairs it was even worse because there was no assistant at the tills there either, and only a bank of the self-service tills which I hate with a passion!
I did consider just putting my prospective purchases back, but I had spent ages there already choosing so I didn’t really want to do that and I was forced to go through with it.
It’s not that I am a complete technophobe, otherwise obviously I wouldn’t be here using a computer! And I’m generally OK with self-service machines in banks etc. It’s the ones in shops I can’t stand, and I think it’s because they are so bossy! They are constantly telling you ‘Scan your purchases-insert your card-have you got a loyalty card-do you want a bag-take your receipt-take your purchases’ etc. etc. I just get so irritated and often find myself telling the machine ‘Oh just shut up!’
Even if I try to be rational about it, I still feel really miserable and irritated after using one of those, it just spoils my day! Am I the only person who feels this way?
Thankfully on the way home, cycling in the pouring rain, I passed a couple of other people in the same conditions and we all smiled at the absurdity of our situation, which helped to make me feel a bit more cheerful!
I didn't take a picture of the machine of course, so I'm cheering myself up with some flowers : )

@Fleura Haha - yes, there is that too. I loved our supermarket in our previous town. As soon as there was more than one or two in the queue, they'd call up more girls to the checkouts. It avoided so much frustration and annoyance. And there wasn't a self checkout to be seen.

I feel your frustration. That reminds me of a funny skit on these machines by Sebastian Maniscalco if you need a laugh.

@healerWitch Usually I like to see the actual item I'm buying, but I guess it's easier for some things especially if you are just stocking up on something you've bought before. Maybe they are just trying to drive us all to online shopping.

@Fleura the ones we have around here don't speak thankfully, they only give the same instructions through a LOT of prompts.
I get frustrated with all the nuisances of shopping in general, so I just do my groceries and everything else online.

I try not to use those machines. They don't save the consumer any money, or even time. A paid human cashier can scan my purchases through a lot faster than I can.
