Little Surprises

Every year I watch my daffodils push up through the ground. They have been growing slowly for a few weeks and there are a few that are flowering. Most still have some growing to do.
…and then there are the crocuses. I watch for them every year. I study the ground where I expect them to sprout. I never see them before the a ready to blossom.
Sunday morning there was a little yellow bloom but I didn’t see any evidence of any others attempting to make an appearance. Other yellow ones have appeared but still no sign of the purple or white ones.
This morning I found this beauty.
There had been no warning. No leaves pushing their way up to announce the imminent arrival of a bloom. When it was time: TA DA!
I like little surprises.

@SophiaMorros K says she's seen some come up over the few days. I'll keep watching for them.

I would have expected your daffodils to be ahead of ours. The first of mine bloomed Tuesday. There's a bunch across the street that were flowering a week before that.

@DWDavis I spotted the first green shoots on ours back around the beginning of February. The early ones are blooming, but most are in places where they don't get a lot of sunshine so we will have daffodils blooming probably through the end of March.
When we lived in Alabama we'd usually see the first shoots early in January.

@SophiaMorros These were at my Mum's place. Unless you actually parted the leaves and went looking, you'd never have known there were flowers there.

I always try to spot them and never succeed. They are sneaky little flowers.

I think that's why I like crocuses. They are one of the first signs of spring...and I missed them in Alabama!

@SophiaMorros They are a remarkable small little flower, so resilient that here, in cold climates, they can withstand cold weather and even snow all the time maintaining a pretty bloom.

What a lovely surprise, I always enjoyed seeing my tulips coming up in the spring when I had a garden in Latvia,

Thank you! It's too early for my garden...this time of year I enjoy the flowers that pop up every year without any effort from me.

@RebeccasFarm It's a good compromise between Canada, where I am from, and Alabama my husband's home stage.

It freezes here, but rarely does it stay below freezing for more than a couple of days at a stretch. We've had very mild temperatures the last few days.

I was just bragging about my crocus and daffodils that were blooming.
I was excited when I saw they were up.
Then, three days ago we got three inches of snow and temps in the teens. The ground has had snow or frost covering it for 4 days. I am afraid to go look. I hope they survive.

Crocuses and daffodils are pretty resilient. We may yet get snow here as well...it wouldn't be the first time a storm dropped 10 inches on us in March.

I would love that surprise. No sign of spring here and winter isn't leaving quite yet

I do not know a lot about flowers and the picture you put here is very pretty. Thank you for sharing this with us.
