Indian PM's chest width is 56 inches. The information is all over on net. And when it came to Ukraine, India abstained from voting at UNSC. Russia had the audacity to thank us for the stand. We took that stand .. because we need that oil, and Russia along with China can become a formidable enemy. What did we do in 70 odd years instead of establishing assets, doing research for better equipment for wars and royalties, ..the money word... we built statues. We gave doles. So today, even though we know what is right, we cannot stand up for right. Tomorrow we need help, nobody is gonna come to our aide either. So much for the broad chest. How is killing of innocents ever justified? How is threat to withdraw from nuclear Treaty not a sign of insanity in the man? The Hindu in me hurts. I was against Afghanistan attacks. I am against Ukraine invasion. War never solves problems. Are we human beings so dumb as to not realize this one single thing? Now we have technologies so we can discuss issues explain our grievances and convince people on TV channels. Why wars even now? And do citizens really have power? Or for that matter even understand deeper politics? Why are they punished? I apologize to Ukrainians. I pray god finds a way around it such that you all are in better position and the aggressor unhappy.

Christian scriptures say “There will be wars and rumors of wars, so see that you’re not alarmed.’ As long as man worships his own ego we’ll have these problems.

This is clearly Putin's senility and care two hoots attitude towards citizens of Ukraine.

When you board a plane and there is an emergency, you have to put your mask before helping others. Every country is taking the actions keeping their benefits before others. And Geopolitical angle and economic angles can not be ruled out. India did take a right step. It cannot hamper it's relationship with the US or with Russia. Modi might have 56 inches chest and he has shown it with Balakot strike. He is the leader of a huge democracy and one with a great responsibility. Along with 56 inches chest, one needs to have a diplomatic ability too to be a tall leader. Nothing is in black and white when it comes to geopolitical issues. You weigh your pros and cons and then decide. India has abstained but not came out in support of Russia.

@arunima25 The Hindu in me thinks knowing right and not standing up for it is wrong. Citizens are powerless. Once we vote we cannot even tell them problems in our street. Killing citizens is ..words fail me. Zelenskyy asked for our help. That makes him "sharanarthi" as per our culture, right? That is how the Hindu in me came up. In the past, we were there for Jews and Parsis. Why have we failed now?

@vandana7 All the wars have been destructive. And then they fade away. Countries go back to normalcy but victims don't. Their lives change forever. . Everyone knows wars is bad but still they keep happening. Afghanistan is suffering. The US left it in a worse place than before when it invaded it. What did UN do? Except for hollow talkss It's wrong to blame Modi or bring his 56 inch comparison here. He didn't initiate the war or provoked it.

@vandana7 You have a perspective here. But then the permanent members of the organization are the real bullies and the ones involved in all the wars. Russia vetoed... that's the mockery of such organisations. Is the organisation fair? The mighty are in power there too. Where does the representative of third world..the real issue facing countries have a chance there? These organisations are fake and toe their line with them. We have seen it all the time. We will not face the same. China might do the same to Taiwan but not to India. And when it does to Taiwan, India will take a different step. China would not get into a full war with us...the bordee disputes might continue and West that's criticizing us today would be a mute spectator the way they have been so long. India has to fight it and it's doing it. I am glad that our leaders right from Indira have not signed the nuclear ban treaty. That would still have some fear in our neighbours. Ukraine was the third biggest nuclear power but it signed it. If India needs a powerful position, it has to get a permanent membership in UN. And who supports it? Not Ukraine or US or China? I mean it's a myopic view to say that India did wrong... And why the Hindu in you gets hurt?? For me, it was the human in me who was hurt. I wonder why that angle is brought unnecessary in your post. That's a unnecessary propaganda that should be left to baseless fanatics and should not be incorporated in any talk unrelated to it.

Why war? Because it generates a lot of cash. And it's snowing again.

I heard on the news that India has lots of business with the US so we cannot go against the US if we vote for Russia and here in Russia with whom we had good relations for several years so we cannot vote for the US. So it was better to become neutral at this point. No doubt Mr. Modi talked to Putin about the present situation and might have requested him to stop the war.

We have a lot of business with China as well. China is not attacking us because of that. Liquid buyer. Unlike Pakistan. Once it gobbles Pakistan and Sri Lanka, we would have to think what are our chances of survival.

@vandana7 It can gobble Sri Lanka and Pakistan because they have fallen for their loans as bet. They can't gobble us. We do business with them as equal partners and not beg to them or let them come and work in our territory. And India is now very much capable of aggressive reply back unlike the last Indo China war.

At least Afghanistan had some purpose to it. But hey, think of it another way. Had Biden not shut down U.S. oil you might have been able to get it from us...IF that would have made you feel any better about the source and who gets the money.

I don't know how many soldiers were lost at Afghanistan war. The number of deaths in World Trade Center plus the number of deaths in the war, plus all the monetary losses, plus the cost of the time spent on planning the war including resources. You bet, it is too much. Especially since the results are not as desired.

"What did we do in 70 odd years instead of establishing assets, doing research for better equipment for wars and royalties, .." Sorry I don't think it is the main purpose of every country to establish assets of literacy or equipment for wars or royalties but for the betterment and improvement to many areas of our lives. Look at the developments of sciences and technology - don't tell me it had not helped you one bit? No offense but war today is not waged on dictatorship or territorial. Afghanistan - after more than a decade the Taliban is still around?! Who is to blame? The Afghans? Who abandon Afghan? Ukraine - Everday I see threats and war mongering, did you see the EU, UN or USA going to Putin in whatever neutral country talk about other solutions? No war, no hostility, still the sanctions, what can Russia do? Then, when Russia struck - what was EU immediate response? Meeting after meeting - lunches and dinners extravaganza and then? Lastly I'm ashamed of the sporting bodies like UEFA and IOC - where is the saying that sports has no politics? What a shame this is!

Establishing assets...I meant schools, hospitals, railway systems, etc. Not statues. Equipment of war are necessary whether you agree or not. For self defense. Today Ukraine's situation is what I do not want any country to be in. Periodically, dictators will come, over ambitious people will come, jealous people will come, stupid people will become leaders. We cannot wish them away. They come accidentally. They don't negotiate...and while everything is not transparent, till it is not, we have to take things at face value. We need to have enough to protect ourselves. My view, you need not conform to it of course.

Europe needs gas from Russia, Italy and Germany import more than 95% of their gas from Russia. We import wheat and fertilizers and wheat (pasta, flour and everything coming from wheat) went up 42% yesterday. This is a serious situation, I prepared our atomic shelter.

Every country has its rough spots I suppose. Initial two or three elections could be forgiven because people were not sufficiently educated, newspapers were expensive, and we were overwhelmed with gratitude towards our leaders who got us freedom. But subsequent lethargy to understand what is going on and failures or lack of capability is beyond comprehension. Even if we were working hard to build our future. The present generation is even worse thanks to social media which can easily influence people and divide based on available data. No right measures but nobody wants to stand up asking for them.

As long as there is man there will be wars. We will never learn; and some countries' lust for control of another nation is far too great.
