Large UK companies held to account over salary gaps between male and female workers

I’ve just written about how Australia is tackling inequality between cultures and genders. Another interesting article turned up on much the same subject. We have just had International Women’s Day (IWD) when there is much pomp and circumstance by some organisations about how valued their female members are and how ‘equal’ they are to their male counterparts. However, in the UK, a Twitter bot, the Gender Pay Gap Bot, and I quote “reveals the extent to which UK-based brands celebrating IWD are paying their female employees less than their male employees.” The system is automated somehow and uses information from a database the records salaries of those employed in UK companies of more than 250 employees. It’s all a bit beyond my ability to summarise so rather than be reported for plagiarism, I’ll give you the link: https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2022-03-11/gender-pay-gap-bot-international-womens-day-twitter/100898172 Photo is my own of a briar rose.

They need to have a meeting about this. This situation exist in most workplaces across the globe.Sometimes women are marginalize and don't get managerial positions even though they are more qualified than their male counterparts.

That's true too. There is a lot of inequality in the workplace.

Beautiful picture. It's so sad to know that a progressive country like UK in which this is happening. Women should get equal pay as men if not more. Glad it came into light so that action can be taken against them. Take care

I doubt there will be much action taken against them but the publicity might help change things.

If they are doing the same work, they should get the same wage. I'm glad you like the photo.

It happens in almost every big business. And probably most smaller ones too.

I love those small yellow roses, I have to cut a branch from one not far from us, I would like to grow them. Interesting article, I still have to find a country where women are paid the same salaries as men for the same job.

@JudyEv There is only a lot of noise and much talking, but women are still discriminated.

I don't think there is such a country. There is a lot of noise made about it from time to time but nothing much happens.

@wolfgirl569 Most were making a big fuss about IWD and writing glowing things about the women in their organisations or elsewhere.

The big companies tried to stop the bot from working but by then the damage was probably done.

Women can also manage like men do. Even here on my place men overrule in a managerial position. It sounds unfair.

It certainly isn't fair that men get more money when women do the same work.

Very prevalent indeed. And the big companies are keen on keeping it so.
