Wrote about looking at online shops to try and improve my own. Well, guess what, I saw an item I want in Fakebook marketplace. I PMed the owner/poster of the item and asked about it. We had settled on a price and the delivery fee. I had sent the amount via GCash ( a popular payment platform here in the Philippines). The seller verified receiving the funds and mentioned that he will send the item within the day and will send the tracking number to me. A day passed and heard nothing from the seller. I tried sending a PM but found put that I was blocked. I then sent an SMS and called the number where I sent the funds. No reply. Hard to think that in this day and age people still pull off scams and people still fall for it. Anyway, after not getting any replies, I just sent an SMS to the number and said that it seems the person needs the money far more than me and wished that the amount of money was able to help the person out even if he/she got it by dubious means. Have you ever fell victim to a scam?

The other party pretended to be my sister and sent me a text message, saying that he had a new mobile phone number and asked me to help charge the phone bill

@DaddyEvil Yes, although I don't have much money, I'm still in a bad mood when I encounter such a thing. My sister helped me call the police. The police just recorded the course of the matter and the phone number of the other party. This was 12 years ago

I never experience that, because i always buy something online in the marketplace (so the seller dont get the money until we receive the things that we buy).

I always pay using PayPal because if the person does not send the good, I report immediately to PayPal, I am refunded and the person "banned".

I have PayPal but it was not an accepted form of payment. Most likely because of the stricter measures it has against scammers and fraudsters.

@allen0187 When people do not accept PayPal is a warning signal for me.

No, I haven't. Will GCash not help you recover money from scams? (I use PayPal to pay for the few things I buy online because PayPal WILL recover the money when people try to scam you. If the person doesn't accept PayPal, there has to be a reason for that.)

Nah, GCash doesn't have that feature and all transactions are not refundable or reversible.

@allen0187 I wouldn't be using it, then. Even a regular bank here will help you if you get scammed. It sounds like GCash was set up by scammers for the use of scammers.

Sorry for your experience. Personally I have not been scammed but it certainly is a big "business". There are too many victims for scammers to stop their unethical ways.

This is very common nowadays and one of the problem is how and where to report these scammers. Even if you got the real name and mobile number of the scammer its very hard to report. I hope this problem will be given some assistance even by police so these scammers will learn some lessons.

True. Most scammers get away scot free and they continue their illegal activities.

No it hasn't happened to me. I don't think it's wise to ever buy something on Facebook Marketplace. I really think the only legit place online to buy things is Amazon Prime.

is there a intermediary platform between you and seller?when we pay for sth online, there is third platform between buyer and seller,we submit money to third intermediary platform at first, after we receive goods and confirm it,then third platform transmit money to seller,if we don't receive goods, the third platform will refund money to us,this is quite safe way to buy goods online.

There is and it is called GCash. However, GCash has no safety net against instances such as this.

@allen0187 ,actually,i mean can you give money to third intermediary platform first, after you receive real goods, then you tell third intermediary platform to hand money to seller, this way can ensure your goods.I think it's a safe method.
