So, Will Smith and the Oscars

March 28, 2022 2:58am CST
if you've been following or not following the Oscars you may have already heard that Will Smith just slapped Chris Rock for making an inappropriate joke about his wife. Some are calling out Will Smith for assaulting Chris Rock while others say Chris deserved it. What do you guys think? Chris? Will? or were they both wrong...

Fans from all sides have differing views about this. Maybe Will has acted on impulse but a lot felt that Chris made an insensitive remark knowing that his wife has a health condition or something.

definitely insensitive. As comedians, they're supposed to be able to "read the room" and know which jokes were supposed to be acceptable to the audience or not. Not that this should happen but There are stories of stand-ups assaulted because their jokes didn't go over so well with their audience.

@NatsuYeung Really? Wow, that's kinda bad, about the last part you mentioned. Many people said that was staged but I doubt so. The dude was not complimenting his wife so it was like a chain reaction. I guess Will could have responded not reacted. What if one day the couple go out say, for a nice meal and other people say the same stuff to his wife? Will he punch them all too? That will be unhealthy in the long run and doesn't make sense whatsoever. Perhaps Will Smith acted in a moment of folly. But that doesn't change the fact that he's still a good husband and a dad, plus a good actor.

I don't watch the academy awards, but tell me, did Will Smith win? Or even if he didn't win just the fact that he was nominated, l can see why people would be green with envy.

Will Smith won and he slammed the comedian because he made an inappropriate comment about Will Smith wife. You should have not joked about a health problem of his wife.

@Kandae11 You do not joke about this kind of problems. Most men I know would have done the same as Will Smith, but we live in a Latin country and ALL men and women would have fully justified Will Smith.

@LadyDuck Most men l know get really mad if anything inappropriate is said about their mother - first and wife second. And seeing Will's wife has a health problem, Chris Rock was definitely asking for trouble.

I didn't see it, so I don't know 'how far' Chris went---if it was just one little quip about Jada's baldness, then Will was WAY out of line; but if it was joke-after-joke (and he just wouldn't SHUT UP after Will had told him to), then ... well, Will should've dealt with him AFTER the show; but Judge Jeanine is rightQ "THE OSCARS ARE NOT THE HOOD!"

@NatsuYeung And they're playing it like Smith went up there and 'beat Rock down & left him in a crumpled pile on the floor'---like Stephen Colbert said, Rock just shrugged it off!

@mythociate media keeps going back to the jokes Chris Rock made in 2016 and made it appear that it's a feud they've been having for years IMO I don't think it wasn't entirely about Chris- maybe Will was just tired of all the talk he and his family have been getting and took it out on Chris. His apology to Chris seems to support that theory.

Smith is a prick. Bringing thuggery to the Academy Awards. Chris Rock is a comedian and pokes fun at people. That's what he does for a living. Smith overreacted and made a fool of himself.

@PhredWreck It changed the way I think of him. If he can explode and lose it and assault someone while wearing a tuxedo in front of an audience, imagine how he acts off camera. He definitely needs a time-out.
