Feeling Sorry For Him

I heard a heartfelt plea on our local radio station by a man who lost his wallet. He was asking that if anyone found the wallet would they please return it to him. He said he does not care about the cash in the wallet, only the documents -- important documents which would be difficult to replace. I am always a bit nervous and very alert when l travel with cash or important documents--especially when using public transport. I usually secure them in an inner compartment in my handbag. Do you keep your wallet in a secure place when you go out?. Have you ever lost your wallet or handbag? Image by pixabay

I feel sorry for this man and I understand very well. When I was attacked by three guys who stole my handbag I did not care at all for the money, but I wanted my documents back. I only keep scanned copies of my documents with me now.

@LadyDuck OMG, this sounds horrible. I am glad that you were okay after. I guess, now you are pretty nervous about going somewhere, I would be.

@Kandae11 Yes, I was attacked in Miami, in the garden of the hotel. They arrived to grab my handbag, threw me on the floor, I badly hit my head and I fainted. I had my documents and credit card in my bag. I was lucky, the Miami police checked the area, they found my bag, no more money inside, but all my documents were there. I blocked the credit card immediately, that was not my major concern.

I forgot my mobile phone on a table in Burger King some years ago. Luckily l remembered exactly where l had left it, so l returned to the outlet and asked if anyone had turned in a lost phone. Believe it or not, someone had. There are still honest people out there.

I feel sorry for this man too. I did lose my wallet once, when my eldest was little. Thankfully, someone found it and was able to get in touch with me. The only thing I lost was my bus pass, which isn't the end of the world. Someone took it before this person found it.

I have recurring dreams about losing my handbag, thankfully it has never happened for real.

I try to be minimal now and not even carry a purse (just a small fanny pack) . . . this keeps me from carrying too much stuff as I have in the past. And it keeps things secure, I hope. I used to have this wallet thing that also held my phone in there . . . I actually dropped it out of my car and luckily a person drove to my house to return it. I realized I cannot have something that is just held in my hand - so no more of that!!

@Kandae11 Right - it's a dangerous thing to just hold things in your hands. It's too easy to leave and lose things that way . . . also criminals have the nerve to run and grab these days - worse than sneaky pick pocketing.

I can't do that either . l forgot my phone one time because l had it in my hand. Now it stays in my bag unless l am talking on it.

This is the very reason I do no longer carry purses. I have a pack that is around my waist and close to my body.

Did you feel bad enough that you returned the wallet after you took the money out of it? I accidentally left my wallet in a shopping cart when I was 18. Luckily, one of the store employees found my wallet and turned it in to Lost & Found. My ID was in my wallet and the store manager called and told me I'd forgotten it.

If someone found that wallet and already spent the money and heard that man's plea. I suppose he or she could leave it at the front desk of the radio station. You were lucky to get yours back.

@Kandae11 True enough. Yes, I was but I didn't have any cash or credit cards in my wallet at the time. It just had my driver's license and insurance card.

One time I left my wallet in a taxicab, but I was very lucky the driver returned it to me with contents intact. I offered a reward, but he said no.

Hopefully that man can soon find the wallet and the documents in it. I have never lost my wallet. But I understand that redoing identity documents is very time consuming, and very inconvenient if we have to travel a lot.

Losing the cash is bad enough but having to replace those documents is a hassle. I've never lost my wallet or had my wallet/purse stolen but I do feel bad for anyone this has happened to. I hope some good Samaritan returns his wallet

I've left my handbag in restaurants once or twice but always managed to get it back. Vince had his wallet stolen in Vienna once and it was a nightmare for a while.

As I got older, I make doubly sure the wallet is not lost by checking its presence often, especially when leaving a place. I go for a trouser with a "deeper pocket" It is indeed a disaster to lose it with important documents inside.

I've lost my ID a few times and it was returned. One time the people returned it and another time it was mailed.

I do keep my wallet secure. It’s the last thing I’d want to lose. I feel sorry for the poor guy.
