School Days Story

School days story of my "best' dress" I remember one specific year when my Mom made us 4 girls, very cute dresses for Easter. We all had different colors: yellow, pink, light blue and mint. Mine was of the mint color. We were only allowed to wear them on special occasions and on Sunday for the church. One Sunday afternoon, I was bored and decided to jump over the fence to go and play with the kids over there. Unfortunately, I was not careful and I ripped my beautiful dress. I was so upset, I did not want to go home but after a while my Mom called me to get inside and that's when she saw the disaster. I can't remember the pusnishment though. True story,

I hope your Mom could fix your pretty dress. I remember a hat with cherries that I wore on an Easter Sunday to go to the Mass.

I also had one straw hat with 3 cherries at the front, I loved that hat.

@LadyDuck , In those days, my parents did not take too many photos, I would not have one with my pretty hat.

@CarolDM We were so sad then as we could not show off our new outfit as we had to wear a winter coat.

When Easter was too early, it was too cold to go without a coat and we did not like that.

My mom made those dresses too. We also used to be in processionals with similar dresses but for that they were all the same color and design I think.

@marlina no, processionals. At church. I think it was for major holy days like Easter and one other. I'd have to ask my sister's for more info. I don't remember how we got chosen or how many girls were picked.

I'm sure your mother worked hard on those dresses. You must have felt awful and a bit scared at how your mother would react. The punishment couldn't have been that bad or else you'd remember it.

You are right, I would remember if it had been bad. I was the "baby" in the family and maybe I was treated softly.

I had some favourite dress as a teenaged girl but I don't remember any dress when I was a small child. Those that I remember I did not like.

oh I know about that kind of problem. My mom used to punish me for ripping hems out and breaking the belts of different school dresses. I often played at recess too hard and was quite a tomboy and ended up tearing my good school dresses. She was quite disappointed in me because I was not the " little lady" she wanted.

@marlina I got new Mary Janes (shoes) for Easter and put on my best dress and coat. We would go to Wade Park by the Art Museum in Cleveland. Everyone would go there to be seen with their Easter finery. It was a Cleveland tradition.

If your mother was handy with a needle and thread or sewing machine that rip could be fixed . But she would be upset that you got it ripped in the first place.

We all had that mini heart attack moments when we were kids. Those were the moments that we are having second thoughts to go home because we know that our Moms will get mad. Hahaha.

My older sister tells stories of "playing army" and crawling on her knees in a lavender organza dress. I think many little girls got in trouble for ruining their dresses.

I remember getting a special Easter dress every year. It was certain to be dirty by the end of the day though. I was a tomboy.
