Losing My Best Friend

After living 16 months after the Vet said she had only a short time, my girl Poppy passed away peacefully today. She was 15 years old.
I knew it was coming but I still feel pretty sad. I know she had a terminal ailment but she was such a trooper and bounced back after every setback over the past year.
I was just considering having her put down last night after a bad seizure but she woke today and went outside and then shared a cheese danish with me around 10am.
She then went to nap and never woke up again.
I hate to be spilling my feelings all over here but she was such a good dog that I had to share this out loud.
I know that everyone loses pets over time but I got Poppy when I was 45 years old. I am now 60. She was more family than a pet. Rest in peace Poppy.
Are your pets just pets or do they become a part of your family?

I knew she could go at any time and I pretty much spoiled her this past year. I'm glad I did.

Thank you. I knew it was coming but I wasn't prepared for her to leave today. She left a mark that won't be forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear about your dear Poppy. Her tummy was happy with that cheese danish and I hope it made for a comfy, peaceful nap. My heart goes out to you .
Pets are definitely part of the family. I haven't had dogs since my teens, but they will always be a part of me. Now we have parakeets . . . we lost 2 during the pandemic and we miss them.

My pets aren't just pets. They're family. Danie is like a human daughter I never had and Yuki is her daughter so Yuki is like a daughter to me too and the reason why I kept Yuki is I want something of Danie. It breaks my heart to read this because it makes me think of the time when Danie will have to leave us. I can't imagine. It's too painful for me to think about it. Danie is just 4 years old and if I could have her forever, I would really would. I wish her to live for 20 years if possible.
I am really sorry for your loss. I know how you feel and I'm glad you wrote about it here in mylot.

I love pets but I don't keep pets now after I lost Lucky, Blacky and Micky, three Tibetan dogs. I cried and after that stopped keeping pets.

I am deeply saddened by your loss. It's painful to lose a pet because they're a member of our family.

Oh, my heart breaks for you and sweet Poppy. Our pets truly do become part of our family, sometimes a more loving part than our human ones. You'll have so many special memories of your life together.

Was she the one on your profile pic? Don't be sad, there will be other Poppys' waiting for you to be its owner. I love pets, but have never owned one before. I can't even take care of myself properly, let alone a pet. Condolences to you.
