A Refresher on the Beatitudes: It Seems to Be Necessary

United States
April 14, 2022 12:12am CST
It seems that kindness, tolerance, and mercy require a refresher from time to time. Here are the beatitudes for those who have forgotten tolerance and mercy. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Thanks for the refresher. I wish my country . I wish my country India could hear these words and act upon them. Here, more and more incidents of intolerance are taking place.

It seems that intolerance is like a weed--it springs up everywhere--I am sorry that your country is experiencing intolerance. We are too here in the U.S.--it breaks my heart.

Is it an excerpt from the Bible or you composed it? Beautiful either way.

Yes, they are. "The Beatitudes are sayings attributed to Jesus, and in particular eight blessings recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew... Each is a proverb-like proclamation, without narrative."

I just see a lot of angry, self-righteous talk that is also often cruel. We need to be kinder to each other.

The meek now a days have to suffer. The meek should be taught to protest though silently.

I think the meek are often silent--it kind of goes with the territory.

I taught about the beatitudes before to my Sunday school class. I may want to revisit that part of the scripture and do another lesson on them. We sorely need to be reminded of how we ought to be.

Good to see you here. If more people lived by the beatitudes, there would be no conflicts or wars.

I think a lot bout how our actions affect others--I just think it is better to be kind than to be cruel.
