So many memories came to my mind when I read @DaddyEvil, last post. It's hilarious. About a squirrel he has been trying to keep out of his flower pots on his porch.
When my oldest was 14 years old, we lived way out in the country. One day he caught a little squirrel and was saying he was going to keep it as a pet. Before I could say,put it down, it bit him. Made him so mad. Luckily it got away.
I was going to tell him because I had learned my lesson about wild animals when I was visiting cousins, I was about 10 yrs. old and they had a groundhog cornered. For some reason they wanted to catch it but no one was moving. So stupid me, I just walked over and grabbed it up by the middle
It about chewed my fingers off before it let go. Lesson learned. Anyone else here ever been dumb enough to pick up a wild animal ?
I recommend Daddy evils post. It's so funny. At least he hasn't been dumb enough to pick the squirrel up.

I wanted a pet chipmunk one summer so terribly bad. There was a mama chipmunk that had 3 babies that were nearly tame with us, they came up every day to eat on our back porch. One day I decided I just had to hold one of those babies, so I picked it up. That tiny spitfire bit my finger to the bone. Lesson learned, enjoy wild animals from a distance, they are called wild animals for a reason!

For me, better to watch animals rather than keep them as pet.
I too was once bitten by a female dog 16 years ago.
So I try to be careful when dealing with multiple kind of animals.

I'm so sorry for both you and your son! (You just can't hear me being sympathetic because I'm giggling too hard right now. ) Thankfully, I've only caught a field mouse that tried to bite me. I was wearing leather gloves at the time and released it as soon as it released me!

so often kids want to hold these things because they are cute.
While searching I found out there is such a thing as squirrel repellent, but you might just enjoy watching him and not want to get that anyway.
The photo I have here is of a squirrel I used to enjoy watching at that last house we lived in. It would run around on my window sill out side.

@bunnybon7 I don't mind him digging around in the empty pots so won't use repellent on him. A lot of the time he sits on a branch of the walnut tree outside our kitchen window and watches us moving around in the kitchen.
Squirrels are just as curious about us as we are about them.

I have come close to touching dogs when I backed off when the dog started to growl.

me too, but when I was that young, it was the first dog I knew to bite a human. Besides it was acting friendly. Not growling at all.

Some do. If they are not introduced to people and are what is called feral cats. You mean domestic ones right?

@Kandae11 usually they are better if you get 2 so they can play together and not scratch and bite you. find out the nature of it before you get it too. Especially if you can just afford one

My baby brother, who is almost 65 got bit on his pinky finger by a box turtle he tried to pick up. It would not let go and he went running down the driveway with a turtle hanging off his hand. I do not remember how we got it off.

Most wild animals if you want to catch them grab their tail and then keep them moving until you can get them in a cage. Also always have very heavy leather gloves on as they can still get you As for DaddyEvil. give him time and he will

I have not picked up or gone up to a squirrel or wild animals. I have tried to pick my cat up because had to and she did not want to be picked up so got angry at me and could have bit me.

you never know with cats. Such strange creatures. Often they will even bite as an expression of love.

My cat never learned manners and was left to die at two days old and a family found her and kept her till 3 months old. I did not know much about her and the lady would not tell me much. Most cats have their own agenda.

@bunnybon7 But that is the fun part of growing up I believe. A lot of kids don't have that today.

@CarolDM yes many don't go out and play. Just watch tv or play on the tablets . Plus now there is more danger outside with the virus.
