Chili....beans or no beans???

United States
April 20, 2022 10:21am CST
There were a few posts here yesterday about firing up the crockpot/slow cooker and making chili. Since I hadn't planned our dinner and it was raw and cold outside, chili sounded like perfection. I had all the ingredients except for a can of beans. I jumped on the chili idea and that's what we had for dinner. I added some shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream and had some leftover cornbread my daughter in law brought for our Easter feast. I really didn't even miss the beans. So, beans or no beans with your chili?

I always add beans to my chili, carne (meat) can be optional, not beans!

I always have beans in mine. It will still be cool tomorrow. That would be good if I can find a quick recipe I might make it.

@marlina May be chili con carne is intended to be only meat and chili peppers without beans. It is a spicy stew, not a real Mexican chili.

Whatever's going, but adding beans makes the chili go farther.

I like kidney beans in my chili, but if you had some bread to divert the attention without beans might be alright. Tonight we are having leftover panzerotti for supper tonight-which we both like.

Both! If I have beans though, such beans need to be black beans.

I want beans in mine. And I love cornbread and chili, both of those just seem to go together well. Very good and very filling!

@Marilynda1225 I have been thinking of making chili after our holiday is over but now thinking about getting ground beef to make sloppy joes and then ground beef to make chili. I feel that beans add to the chili.
