Dogs, Cats or Something Else?

Dogs were the first domesticated species over 15,000 years ago and a direct descendant of the wolf. The dog plays many roles in a person's life and has been called "man's best friend". The AKC (American Kennel Club) has ranked the top 5 most popular dogs as: 1. Labrador Retriever, 2. French Bulldog, 3. Golden Retriever, 4. German Shepherd and 5. Poodle.
Cats were first domesticated around 7,500 BC; and it was believed that it began in ancient Egypt. They are popular because of their companionship and their ability to kill rodents. The second most popular pet, in 2021 it was estimated that there were 220 million cats that were owned and 480 stray cats in the world.
The top 5 pets (depending on which list you read) are: 1. Dogs, 2. Cats, 3. Fish, 4. Reptile and 5. Other Mammals.
We no longer have any pets; but we have always had dogs of the Spitz breed.

@58lordstreet Sheep make good pets really and they are quite low maintenance. Archie looks a nice sheep.

@LindaOHio - Poor baby, the first weeks he stayed in front of his owners home all the day. Now he is happy again.

Great to know....and I have had dogs and cats. My mom's dog now is a Havanese and I see her daily so claim her as my own lol! However, I really badly want a husky, they are beautiful dogs

never had a cat as pet, had two dogs border terrier and jack russell, two rabbits and a few guinee pigs and fish

@LindaOHio the dog was only in the cage for the photo opportunity lol he roamed the whole neighbourhood (before rules)

AS you are very much aware of, I have Bichon frises. What you don't know though is that I also own an aquarium with danios in different colors.

No pets since Freckles passed away 20 years ago. But I have my squirrels in the back yard to amuse me, as well as all the neighborhood pets.
