Have you ever sleep walked ?

For some weird reason I was just thinking about when I was a child, I sometimes walked in my sleep. I wonder what causes that? Glad I haven't done it in many many years. It started when I was around 9 years old. I can't remember when it stopped. I think around 13 years old. Our house had a basement with very steep stairs. I remember my step dad putting a lock at the top of the door because my mom had seen me walk past her bedroom toward the kitchen just as she was about to go to sleep and went to investigate and found me starting to open the basement door. If I had stepped out, I would have fell down those stairs. I was scared of the dark as a child so mom knew if I was up wandering around, I was likely asleep I kind of wonder if it's hereditary. Because I had 2 kids that also walked in their sleep for a while when they were little. It's a very scary thing. I woke up one night 2 am with my 6 year old son slamming the door and when I looked he was across the street knocking on his friends door When my oldest daughter was 3 yrs, she got up and wandered around the house and sometimes peed in things. I was a wreck till they grew out of it. Anyone know what causes it? Have you ever walked in your sleep? photo is my last pet, baby girl Coco sleeping.

My son was a sleepwalker. One night I was awakened, by repeated thumping that came from Chad's room. My son was inside his closet with the door closed, bumping into the walls, trying to find a way out. I ushered him back into his bed. The next morning, I mentioned this and Chad had no memory of the incident.

It's quite dangerous. surprised there are not a lot of reports on kids getting killed over it.

@bunnybon7 The sleep walker's safety, that's the most important thing. My son never left the house, but he couldn't have been injured, falling over something.

I have not personally, but I had a roommate in college that did. One time I woke up during the night and she was leaning over my bed. It looked to me like she was going to choke me. I screamed and kicked her away, and then she screamed and woke up. She was a very nice young woman, and we got along great when she was awake!

@bunnybon7 I don't know, maybe not. I never slept well there anyway, too much caffeine.

That is interesting and it seems like it is hereditary since your son seems to have gotten that too. But I am not sure if it is indeed hereditary or not. I do not know if they can be fixed because it looks like it is a natural behavior for some that they sleepwalk. I never experienced that in my sleep, I may talk at times but not sleepwalk.

I never tried it. I think the root cause is a psychological thing.

@bunnybon7 In my book, he or she needs to consult a specialist for this mental health condition.

My grandmother told me when I was very young, I had a terrible fever and did the sleepwalking thing for several nights. As far as I know, that's the only time I ever did that. One of my sons used to sleepwalk every once in awhile, but not often. He outgrew it, too. It would be scary to wake up and not know where your child was, for sure.

It does make me wonder if that is what happened to some that went missing and never seen again. So glad both our children grew out of it unharmed.

@bunnybon7 It is scary for sure. I am glad to know I only did it that one time when I was sick.

I can’t say I know why people sleep walk, but when I was younger, I used to sleep walk and I had night terrors. I was the creepiest child ever! I walked to open and close doors, I would watch the tv when it was off and I used to cry a lot.

Coco was so cute! My mom said I once sat up in bed and tried to pick the flowers on my sheets. She said my eyes were wide open, but I didn't answer to anything.

As far as I know I've never walked in my sleep but my son did when he was young. It can be scary finding a sleeping child wandering around or worse leaving the house. Such a cute picture of your Coco sleeping

I walked in my sleep for a very short time. It may have been right after we moved. It's usually caused by something that has changed or is causing an upset in the person's life. Cute picture.

That's it. I think so too. My mom had just divorced my step dad and we were living with the second one that treated me badly. and both times my kids did it was during problems I was having with their dads.
