Remember that character they had in the Hotels dot com commercial a few years ago, “Captain Obvious”? The character is gone (good, that was not a good fit for what they were selling), but if you want to talk about “obvious” when it comes to music sixty years ago, just take a look at who’s showing up today on the list of my ten favorites from 1962…. #9: Good Luck Charm - Elvis Presley The first three weeks you were probably wondering when the King of Rock and Roll would show up. Right where he belongs: in the top ten! Here’s an interesting tidbit of info: people knew where Elvis recorded (Studio B in Nashville), so they would hang out waiting for him. So, RCA would announce someone else was scheduled to record that day. In fact, a “Jim Reeves session” in March 1960 sounded suspiciously like Elvis’s hit “Stuck On You.” Nope, I couldn’t forget Elvis on this countdown.
