Our village is hit with covid cases

The photo is irrelevant.
Western Australia had almost two years with no covid cases. We closed our border to the east and life continued pretty much as normal. The majority of people got vaccinated but in time, we had to open the borders so that tourism and business could continue.
Since then, we have had a lot of cases throughout the state. Over the last few days, a number of people in the gated community where Vince and I live have tested positive. Two households opposite us are among those who are now ill. These are all elderly people although some are older than others.
Those who have been struck down have all attended one or more of three functions. Some attended a dinner at a rugby club which has opened just across the road. Others attended a morning tea and/or a quiz night at the clubhouse.
Thankfully, Vin and I weren’t involved in any of these. We have been keeping to ourselves and wearing masks if we go shopping, etc. We will continue to be careful but you do have to wonder how long you can dodge this rotten virus.
Just to cheer us all up, here are six photos from our previous house. You have probably seen them all before. Tomorrow it will be exactly 12 months since we moved from there.

I'm glad you've integrated well into the new community. It's a shame Covid has started making the rounds there. Hopefully, it will be mild cases only.

@JudyEv But you and Vince are still in your twenties!
I hope no new cases happen there and those who already have it will get well without any further complications.

@DaddyEvil Thank you for being so uplifting! They have cancelled an event which was to have taken place on Monday so that's a good idea. I think people were getting a bit blase about it all.

I love your photos Judy, so many beautiful birds.
We go nowhere if there are too many people gathering and it is impossible to keep the mask on our mouth and nose. We still had 800 new cases here in the south of Switzerland during the past week.

@JudyEv I guess you are already doing what you should be. Contrary to your situation, here the situation is getting better as the cases are on a downward trend. Despite the big political rallies that happened a few weeks ago it may have risen a little but the numbers are still manageable. I really do not know why is this? But I suspect that not everyone is having themselves swabbed anymore as most are like a flu-like symptoms that can be remedied by the usual medicines already even though they are positive already.

Has it been a year already - wow! Love the birds! But I don't love the covid. It has been looming all around us here non-stop . . . . our family has never stopped being vigilant (meanwhile so many like to think and live like everything is back to normal). Please take care . . . stay safe .

@JudyEv Australia had done so well all this time, so it really surprised me to hear that covid had reached your area. It does seem that with people traveling so openly now, it's inevitable that covid continues to spread. Best to be careful no matter where you are .
I miss your old place too. Even though I've never actually been there, I did get glimpses of it almost daily through your posts . . . it's as if I did kinda know my way around there .

Twelve months since you moved out...time really flies. Your previous house was just great with all the space and nature around it.
Sorry about the rising cases there. Good and lucky that you and Vince missed those functions and are safe.
Mask mandate is no more here in our city. But I am not taking any risk. I have suffered this virus and I know how awful it can be. Even after a year, I still have long Covid effects

@arunima25 I've heard too that the effects can last a long time.

@JudyEv It's not bad, but still I feel that I am low on energy and feel tired easily..Also some bodyache and headache keeps visiting me from time to time. Have undergone all series of tests and diagnosis. Nothing wrong being found. So, doctors call it the long term effects of this mysterious virus. It seems that there are many more cases like mine.

I hope you can keep dodging the virus. It can be done. Cases here have climbed again. We’ve been blessed that we haven’t caught it yet.

Did you wear masks? Lots wear them here especially on public transport. It was compulsory for ages but I don't really know if it still is.

I don't know if it's possible to avoid Covid since so many people are getting it. I do my best to stay away from crowds, etc and still wear a mask.
Wow I can't believe it's a year already that you are living there. Time flies for sure

Love the bird pix. I'm glad you and Vin are wearing your masks. Many say they don't help; but I disagree. Now we have Monkeypox in our country. We are hoping that it doesn't spread to Ohio. Take care and stay healthy.

A year already? Time sure has a way of disappearing quickly. Locally too, news report over 8000 for the past week, so over a thousand people a day with horrible covid. I checked this past Saturday, I'm negative. Let's keep that way, please!

Lovely bird photos. At least you expect COVID but now Florida has outbreaks of monkeypox I think I am not going outdoors again for a long time

@JudyEv - I think that, sooner or later, Covid is spreading everywhere. Even North Korea has admitted they are having a problem with it now. Even though it has been present in our retirement community of 18,000 people for over 2 years, now, most of the deaths here occurred in the first year when no one was vaccinated. We have had a total of 77 deaths, and over 50 of them happened before vaccines were available.
I think you are being wise to wear facemasks and avoid going to dinners and things like that indoors. The problem with public dinners is that people take off their masks in order to eat, and they are often sitting quite close to other people.
If you are both vaccinated and wear a facemask indoors around other people, you should be OK. I really do think it is possible to completely avoid it, as long as you are careful.

I agree with what you've said and we'll be continuing to take precautions. We are booked to get our last jab in a couple of weeks.
