Do crowds bother you?

When I was younger they did not bother me, but now it does.
Our town is having a couple of big celebrations this year.150 years founding and 50 years motorcycle races.
They opened up the big field across from me for camping. $50 for three nights or $20 per night.
Camping, for me, is getting away from every thing, but they are packed in like sardines. Some of the first ones brought their fancy campers in and faced them so that they could open their awnings and have a sheltered place between them to sit and visit. A lot of them are pulling trailers with motorcycles.
The city put in a water spigot for people to get free water. There are at least four porta potties.
The crowd, keeps growing. They are not loud or disruptive, but I still feel suffocated by how many there are and how they block the roads while trying to access the camping area.
I feel restless, yet trapped here in my house. I could go out to the back yard, I guess, but it needs lots of mowing. I cannot think of anything worth writing.
We will go to church and then to see my sister tomorrow. She has paperwork she needs me to read. We will shop for some foods as well.
I guess I am getting old. Otherwise I would go downtown tonight to see what else is happening. There will be saloon girls and old west shoot outs and cowboy type music to name a few things.

This crowd feels like it is right in my front room, so I am not feeling peaceful at home right now.

I can see why you would feel trapped by them coming in and blocking your way to get out of there and go somewhere else. Ever since the Corona came along I have not wanted to be near many people at all and when large crowds gather I want to be as far away from them as I can be. I hope if this ever ends people will not bother me and I can remove the mask I wear and walk freely. I feel more comfortable with it on so I wear it when I go out.

Mostly we are not wearing masks now, except at doctor's offices.I am not afraid of catching anything from this crowd because it is across the street. I am more worried about noise, recklessness and possibly drunkenness.

@Hannihar Unfortunately the virus keeps mutating. Even vaccinated and boostered people are getting the new variants. As long as I can be outside and distant I am fine.

I am afraid of crowds and just people walking around. I wear a mask because I feel better with it on and so many cough and sneeze and do not cover their mouths and I am tired of this virus and wish it would go away. I discovered how hard it is for me to go out with all these people around.

They don't bother me much. I don't go out of my way to look for them, but I'm okay when I'm in them.

It just feels as if these campers are too close to me. I imagine what it is like being the house next to this field. I do not mind that there will be lots of activities down town. It is a little ways away from me.

I am not a fan of crowds. Like you, that's what I like about camping most of the time. This weekend we are at a KOA and they are full. K commented it feels more like a tightly packed neighborhood than a campground. This is exactly why we prefer state parks to commercial campgrounds. We only come here a couple of times a year because it's close to my mom.

Good of you to go see your mom. I can imagine. We have used KOA in the past and have seen some beautiful parks and lakes as well. This is just a big empty field, now filled with campers. And motorcycles.

@GardenGerty I remember the campgrounds, as well as every vacant lot and field around Lake Winnipesaukee, filling up with bikers during Bike Week during the few years I lived in New Hampshire. You could barely move on the road anywhere between Weir's Beach and the Loudon Racetrack.

You have just given me a new word! Thank you. I am familiar with agoraphobia--fear of the market place, but that word does not fit this situation.

@GardenGerty The two words are opposites. 'Agoraphobia' means being alone on an 'empty' place.

I have a diagnosis of extreme depression with panic attacks. I can't handle crowds. Part of it is a feeling of being cramped and part of it is how anyone, and large numbers especially, will perceive me. This is due to my teeth.
I know that feeling of being cramped. Being out in the mountains in a place where I can see the sky is wonderful.

There is so little provision to take care of our teeth and it is expensive. I usually have great open skies to look at.

I just do not like people being too close unless I know them. I had not thought of covid in relation to this weekend, but I bet we see some spread.

@GardenGerty We've pretty much stayed away from crowds for the past couple years because of covid . . . and it's still always on my mind. I hope there was no outbreak !

That is what is normal here. Wide open privacy. I think it felt worse because we had so many rainy days and I was cooped up, then "bam" here were all these people. I finally got to mow again last night.

I'm sorry the crowds are upsetting to you. Can you mow a small portion of the lawn and stay in the back yard? I hope you have a nice visit with your sister. Have a good day and good Memorial Day.

I have never been fond of crowds. And camping for me would be an idea of getting away from the hustle bustle and find some alone time in the nature, maybe with just few campers. Guess, these days every place is overcrowded. The popular vacation spots also get so crowded in peak holiday times. I prefer to go there in off season.

I know that holidays cause big crowds, so I usually stay home. If it is not a holiday or weekend then usually the camp grounds have lots of space.

@GardenGerty Yes. It's better to take some days off when it's not the peak holiday season and go and enjoy these places. It makes more sense to have a serene quiet vacation in off season.

I have always tried to avoid the big holiday celebrations when I know everyone will be there. When I was younger I would go to outdoor celebrations, and sidewalk sales, etc.

@GardenGerty Pretty was never comfortable in crowds. When she was young, she held onto my clothes as if shy. After she became an adult, she just told me she wasn't going into crowds... either I didn't go into them either or I had to go searching for her after I got past the crowds.
