Our school has a culminating event for grade 12 where they have worked all year on one subject of interest ("global issue") and they combine and present all the research they have done. It's kind of like a mini-dissertation or thesis defense. It's fun.
The student I adjudicated did a good job! She was very confident in presenting about "awareness of diabetes" and how we need to raise awareness by education on local, prefectural and national levels so people will be diagnosed quickly and be able to receive treatment, and to prevent the stigma around diabetes (bad lifestyle choices is often not true!)
If you were studying a global issue for a year, what would you do? I would do risk assessment and preparation for earthquakes. Wait, I do that anyway! Can I get a grade for it?

Global issue is too broad. It should be narrowed down to have a definite solution. Yours is earthquake. It couldn't be prevented by it could be avoided its damage to oneself. In our school, students are undergoing an earthquake drill on what to do when earthquake strikes.

The kids have to narrow it down, and come up with one solution, either local, national or global. They also have to do a project that supports that, such as giving a presentation, raising money to send to an organization that addresses the issue, or write/talk with politicians.

@petatonicsca That's it so that a feasible solution to the issue may reach.

Yeah, a global issue is too broad. From climate change to malnutrition, and the list goes on. I am an advocate of "LEAVE NO TRACE". I learned it when hiking became my hobby. It's just a small step but still makes a huge contribution to keeping our environment clean from human waste.

That is also a Girl Scout motto, reworded to "Leave the place cleaner than when you came."

I'm sure you'd get an A+. This was a great idea for the kids though.
