How come people talk too much over phone?

Just noticed my wife was talking to her siblings for approximately 4 hours.
I cannot imagine myself indulging for such a long time talking to anyone.
Most of the time I find nothing to discuss when I am talking to anyone after a few minutes of talking.
But the fact is my wife is multiskilled she was washing clothes, cooking, and completing her household tasks while talking to them.
Hats off to the women, they don't forget to complete their work on time even though they are busy over the phone.

I hate talking on the phone. One of my sisters will call and talk to me for hours if I can't get off the phone. Usually, I don't answer when she calls and then I'll send her a text message asking what she needed. She'll text for five or so minutes and then I tell her I have to do something so I'm not stuck on the phone that way, either.

@sjvg1976 And be stuck talking about the same things over and over again? I don't think so!
I love my sister, but I can only talk and listen so long before I'm done.

@DaddyEvil you can tell her that you have some work after you talk to her for some time over the phone. That's what most of us do.

Men are indeed not talkative. I can't find any topic to discuss after 5 mins of talking.

I can't but my elder son can talk for long. He talks to me and his friends. I can't talk while I am working.

That's a long time and I am impressed with the battery life of the phone..I too talk for long time with my mom or brother, but it hardly goes beyond 30 minutes.
Even I keep doing my work while talking or go for a walk. Women are better known for their multitasking.

You make me laugh reading your post. I am a bit like your wife but I have not talked for 4 hours on the phone while multitasking. I did it usually for 2 to 3 hours. I honestly tell you that I only do this to my best friends and they are only 3 here in Germany.. At least we can do our household chores while talking

I actually don't like chatting on the phone for too long. I like to give the other person my full attention - so I don't multi-task, even though I know I can. I am usually the listener while the other person talks on and on and on . . . so technicalyl I am not the one who is talking .

I seldom talk on the phone for more than 15 minutes except with two friends. They are the talkative type. They talk non-stop regardless on the phone or in person.:)
