Gas Prices Just Keep Rising

I saw on the news this morning that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $5.27 per gallon in the state of Illinois. When I drove past Casey's this morning it was showing $5.09.
Diesel is over $6.
All this means is even more inflation, folks. So, all I can say to that is continue to saddle up—it's not getting any better any time soon.
This weekend I will of course have to do some grocery shopping. Seems every time I go I pay more than I did the last time and I suspect this weekend's grocery trip is going to be more of the same.
Higher prices for everything.
The thing is, gas prices have a major impact on inflation overall because everything is so closely tied to it. Everything moves with diesel, and so this will reflect in higher prices paid for everything.
This ride is far from over. Hang on for dear life. Hold every penny dear to you. You are going to need them, and big time.

Wise advice. I've started stocking up again with non-perishables. Scary times.

@porwest Yeah, I just know anything I buy today will cost more next week.

@1creekgirl I am scanning more closely for sales. Not that that is something new necessarily, but I am certainly taking advantage where I can. For example, Schnucks has pork loin on sale for $1.49 per pound. I am definitely getting some of that.

I read from a Canadian on here their town had literally no gas.
Such wonderful idiots we have making decisions.

@NJChicaa Your tone was pretty clear to me. I could almost sense the shoulder shrug and the rolled eyes and the "nothing to see here" attitude you usually give me. When it comes to this entire disaster we are facing as the country falls apart you seem constantly rather nonchalant about it all. Alarmingly so. But it is what it is.

@ihasaquestion Nothing but sit it and out and do my best to work around it of course. There is nothing I CAN do about it.

Gas prices are soaring high here too in our place. Gasoline - $1.68. Diesel - $1.46.

@Nakitakona In the U.S., we could have had more under control, but Biden decided to reverse Trump's energy policy which has had a ripple effect across the world when it comes to gas prices.

@porwest It's a global issue and effect for it's based on world market.

Here it's hovering right under $5 but I saw on the news that it's $8 a gal in LA (don't know how true that is)
I'm pinching pennies and thinking twice before going anywhere. No more rides (just for fun) around the countryside. I agree that the prices of groceries has also skyrocketed and if the price hasn't increased then the packaging has shrunk

It would not be surprising to me at all if that were true in LA. California is always historically higher than the rest of the nation with the exception of maybe Hawaii. But for different reasons of course. California is the cause of politics and Hawaii is more because of access and how goods get there.
You bring up an interesting thought about the packaging because I have noticed SOME things getting smaller. For example, cheese slices. Not all, but some brands have gone from 8 ounce packaging to 7 ounce packaging.
It is something else to watch as we navigate this inflation.

@Marilynda1225 There was an interesting TikTok I saw (which is saying something by the way lol) where a guy had all three size cups from Starbucks. They all looked different in size but held the exact same amount of coffee.
I don't know if the video is true, but it was certainly convincing. I am sure people are now going to check it out and I am sure more videos will surface.

Here gas is $1.69 per litre for regular. I've seen $2 a litre in British Columbia. Not going to calculate price per gallon. Lazy
My friend bought a Tesla and installed solar panels on her house to charge it.
Luckily Hubby will use his motor bike to do most of the errands all summer. I'll stay home

I am not going to do the conversion either. lol.
As for the electric cars, they are a bit of a misnomer. They still use fossil fuels. That plug in the wall doesn't operate on phantom power of course. It comes from coal and natural gas, IF it is not coming from nuclear.
But that's for another day. lol

I still think retailers are taking advantage of rising prices. Regardless, we have to pay them.

Being one quite keen on business I can assure you that is not the case. Businesses are actually eating some of the higher prices for raw materials, transport and other things and are seeing decreased margins. I know it doesn't seem that way, but that's the reality.
Balance sheets certainly do not support this claim. Walmart and Target and Amazon are also being hit pretty hard on their margins which is why their stocks tanked. Everyone is getting less even if everyone is paying more.

It is definitely bad for the truckers. However, their costs are simply passed along. They pay more for diesel. But the person receiving the goods pays more to get their freight. The ultimate cost is the responsibility of you and I who buys the things delivered.

@CarolDM They must be owner-operators. Parameters are a bit different for them. They are bound by certain limitations based on competition and what the carriers want to pay them to haul the loads, which sometimes forces them to haul loads with lower margins simply because they can't get the loads at any price as an owner-operator.

I was just in Iowa a bit over a week ago and that was the one thing I noticed...gas was cheaper. But it will still be going up of course. It is tough for everyone, but even tougher for those who, like you, have money problems.
No end in sight either unfortunately.

@porwest well that is good that it was lower there; I am sure it is lower here than some places...but yes definitely going up. I do understand it is tough for everyone....but for those like me, I don't know if I will able to buy food next month
Just extremely stressed and filled with anxiety over it all.

Things are only gonna get worse from here it seems. Hubby filled up for under $5 in Queens, NYC. I think it was $4.67, unless I am wrong. That ain't cheap by any means either.
