Live Band - The Drummer Is The Most Important

I've been listening to a lot of concerts on YouTube, and it's true. I didn't need to see these videos; they just punctuated my hypothesis. There's sometimes a big disparity in quality when it comes to live vs. studio (where you can do multiple takes, no nerves from the audience, working on your own time, etc).. And I've heard some guys not quite establishing a groove, or trying to funk up a song, and then changing again. Has to drive the rest of the band. I think every musician should sit in a producer's chair and listen. Many times what is best for the drums might not be the best for the band. A guy can miss a lyric here or there, maybe sings a few lines an octave lower, and even if he messes up, it doesn't screw the others up (You can see Robert Plant do this on Stairway; TSRTS). Vocals don't have to be perfect, but if the drummer is even a little bit off on his game, it throws the entire band into the trash. Gotta keep the time/rhythm all concert long. No mistakes.

Yes, the drumbeat can sometimes make or break a song.
