Urgent care doctor talked to an orthopedic surgeon who believes this is more likely cancer than an infection. He says not to start antibiotics until after MRI with contrast.
Bob has kidney failure. MRI contrast is bad for kidneys. IV antibiotics are bad for kidneys.
When he gets up Bob will go have blood drawn to recheck his kidney function. If still bad he will get IV fluids. Has fluid around heart and lungs, IV fluids are bad for heart and lungs with too much fluid. It gets complicated.
Then schedule MRI someplace that will do it with him having a pacemaker.
Heart doctor says it is okay to do.MRI.
Meanwhile, I will cook, clean and work today.
I will be here a bit. Bob is still in bed.

I am inclined to think it is more likely the infection, but what do I know. Thanks.

@RebeccasFarm the urgent care doc did not think it was cancer, but it also does not act like an infection. It just makes Bob hurt and tired.

His attitude is great, and I think the hospital is kind of nice for him as he is getting answers.

This is why I am glad he finally got a bed in a larger hospital. All the experts he needs under one roof. Should be getting the MRI as we speak.

@GardenGerty That's the good thing about moving to the city. Big hospitals, experts in their fields and all close by and mostly coordinated by the various departments. It takes a lot of the pressure off.

He has this list of things that are wrong, but he looks healthy and does not have some of the problems other people his age do, like falling a lot.

Good, and luckily he is married to you! Old age, we can't escape it. My doctor says exercise 1 hour daily..., I said no promises.

His kidneys may bet better, not so with the heart. It was damaged by a stroke.

Thanks so much. They have already suggested another possibility which is long term damage still occurring from radiation treatments 5 years ago. If that is the case he will be given help with the pain.

I am optimistic. He has had this pain to greater or lesser degree for about fifteen months. Everyone has thought it was muscular.

Yes, I am sure that is how it goes with these newer pacemakers.

@GardenGerty Almost all pacemakers are now considered safe for magnetic resonance imaging. However, it is better to talk with the doctor about the pacemaker before any medical procedure.

At least two doctors have said that they do not think it is. We just are glad he is in a place where he can safely get some testing.

Thank you. When I know anything I will share. He will finally get the MRI this afternoon, in a rather large hospital.
