My Summer 2022 Tales - I

Early May 2022. Things were settling down for me at work and personally after a hectic and spending heavy April. We had a planned visit by our landlord in early May. It was after a very long time. They were coming to see a completed Shaft repair work. Unluckily for us, there was a big argument over trivial things with them. They started pointing to a few things "This is not clean", "That is not ok" etc. And probably they expected us to listen like mute lambs. Yet we too argued a bit. As a result, they asked us to vacate the rented place in a month. I got it changed to almost 2 months as I said that 1 month is too less. But it was a big shock and upheaval we were not prepared for. And definitely not during the Summer time. Yours truly was a bit off mind and clueless at that time! ..... To be continued.....

I hope you've got things worked out to your satisfaction now, whether that's still in that place or another one. Pretty and I had to move from a place we had rented for over 22 years four years ago. And we were given less than a month to move. It was difficult to find a new place and move, but we managed, finally. We do what we have to do.

@DaddyEvil So was the landlord unreasonable or there was some other reason as to why you were given less than a month to move?

This is the major problem a tenant face. It's disturbing when you are given a deadline to vacate especially in the summer. Hope you didn't have to face such issues while shifting to the new place.

@sjvg1976 I did face challenges. Hot weather, lack of alternate rented places. I would share in further posts.

Oh no! This doesn't sound good at all. Are places easy to find there? I hope so. The rental market is terrible here and places are very expensive.

Staying in rented house is really irritating at times if the owner is nagging all the time or finding faults.

@aninditasen Plus there were external influencing factors and unwanted suspicions. Overall a sudden thing that happened and it has upset many things of mine.

@anil02 After April, Rented houses are fewer to find as many people have come back from their home cities or villages.

@anil02 But the conditions become unsettling for the Tenants. Landlords take undue advantage of the situation!

I am so sorry. We had an argument with our landlord in Monte Carlo. We already had bought this house here so we decided to vacate and the rented apartment and left.

Yeah, a bit of diplomacy on their part would not have hurt your feelings. I have been a gentleman landlord and likewise a tenant!

@Shiva49 I think the main Landlord got influenced by multiple factors plus his wife and others overshadowed him. My relation with him over the years would have prevented such an outcome but if the influencers dominate decision making is also flawed. And yes, they behaved badly and rudely.

@Shiva49 In my case, moderators and calmers were missing. I admit that being of an old age and with health issues, the landlord might have some suspicions and fears but still could have behaved better.

The landlord seems to be very rude. One month is too less of a notice. Here in the rental agreement, a minimum of 60 days notice from both sides is mentioned. Luckily, all the tenants that we got in the last fifteen years had a good relationship with us. My other house on rent is in the next building. They are our neighbours.

@arunima25 Suspicion and external influence were major factors. Plus we perhaps did not co-operate in a few things due to our personal Covid protocol preferences, which not all appreciate. Overall it was sudden and unexpected and I would say the Landlords did not handle the situation in a right way. Perhaps their mind was engulfed by some unknown fears or suspicions. Even during our day of shifting, and a few days before that, they had a very unpleasant and non-cooperative attitude. I would share in another post.

@arunima25 Many people in a way mocked us for not keeping a maid for almost 2 years and a few months. Plus the Landlords' behaviour totally ignored the fact that we had 2 kids! But that's life!

Oh, this is the usual things renters encounter. Some landlords are inconsiderate and will just ask this or that.
