Good Morning 7/1 Shocking!

So, I noticed last night on Nextdoor that someone had posted a short video of something they had seen on their porch. I was expecting to see a bear. Although I have not seen one here, they are around. Well, actually what it was was a mountain lion!!! I have heard tell of them being in these parts but the one sighting someone had that I know of was probably about 10 miles from here. I also know of someone's daughter who found a track and had it checked out by wildlife officials who said that is what it was, but this is actual evidence! It makes me wonder if the animal I heard last summer through the window, that I was pretty sure was a bobcat was instead a mountain lion?? There are lots of deer to eat here, they might stick around. Any big cats by you?

Knowing that there are wild animals hiding in your area is really terrifying. I'm relieved they are not present in my place. All I can hope for is that it won't have a craving for human flesh and will instead be satisfied with deer meat.

@snowy22315 Although I hope it doesn't view you as its prey, I do think it will be interesting to see one. I find it very frightening that they are encroaching on your place; they ought to remain in the wilderness, where the majority of their food is found. However, if they get inside your neighborhood, they might begin to find their prey there.

@rsa101 Like I said their main food is deer, and there is no shortage of them here.

It is more interesting than scary to me. However, I don't want to run into one.

We've found wild boars near residence. They were captured by government operation staff.

They have them about 45 minutes from here in a river area. I think they do have a short hunting season for them in this state.

@Beestring Rarely if they have a reliable food source, I don't think they are likely to do that at all.

I have no idea if there are any predators where I am but I do know we have coyotes and bobcats in our mountains. I have never seen either one of those.

Someone who lives not close to us but in this county filmed a cluster of bears like maybe 5 or 6. I didn't know they ever hung around in packs other than a mother with her young. Now, that was surprising as well.

@snowy22315 Usually, they don't want company, except in mating season or, if there's an area that's rich in food, they'll tolerate others in close proximity. There are a couple of bears on my sister's farm at the edge of the Missouri/Arkansas border.

None that I know of for sure, but I would not be surprised if the area that is overgrown in cedar trees had at least a bob cat.

I like wild animals but having one on my porch would be a bit too close for comfort..or in the yard, another thing I wouldn't want.

It’s good to see a warning like that online then through your own eyes. We took a back road yesterday for a short jog over to another road. There was a big bush on 1 side and I couldn’t help but to notice some rather large droppings. So I asked my hubby and he told me likely it was from moose. I never said another word for miles as I have never seen a moose so was watching for one. I didn’t see one.

Wow, that would be cool to see a moose...as long as he is not standing in front of your car that is. I saw two when I was visiting in Alaska. One was at kind of private zoo type place and I got to see it very close up. It was immense!!! Really really big. Also when when we were walking in a big park they have in Anchorage, one stopped in front of us on the trail. All the hikers, bikers stopped because they don't like it when you cross in front of them apparently. We all stood still for about 3 or 5 minutes, somebody's dog barked and scared it back off the trail. I was also disappointed in NH cuz there were moose signs everywhere, but no moose.

WOW mountain lions are pretty big. No big cats here, but more and more cute cats. I should stop giving food to all the cats who show up.

@LadyDuck Oh the word is spreading in the feline world...good eats at Anna's house! Friend has several feral cats that more or less live there, because he feeds them. One of them is quite friendly and likes to hang out with friend and goes in his house periodically.

A mountain lion was definitely not what I expected you to say. Knowing they are so close is kind of scary. I haven't heard of any being around here but that doesn't mean they aren't. Occasionally a bear sighting will be on our local FB page so that's not so unusual.

I heard they have a big range, so it might have sauntered out of the mountains to see what was down here.

@snowy22315 Wild boar in mountain areas, far from residential area. Goats, mainly at farms. Kauai, wild deers, not Oahu though, where I live. We've wallabies in Kalihi mountains, but, never comes to residential areas.

I don't expect to have any close encounters. However, this area isn't super wooded. I mean there are some of course, and the area in back of me has several acres of woodland, but you would think they would want to stick in the mountains or something.
