Why do some people think they are the best?

In the corporate world, life is tough.
There are lots of office politics that one cannot escape from.
My boss thinks he is the only one who works well and thinks everyone else is dumb. But he forgets he cannot alone run the show, it's the teamwork that makes things good or bad.
He appreciates himself and criticizes everyone.
I dont know how to change him, she shouts at everyone and always finds fault in everyone. It has become difficult to get along with him.
Does anyone have an idea how to deal with him as I cannot leave or change a job at the moment?

Understand where he's coming from (maybe learn a little bit about his history; maybe by asking him, but probably-better by asking co-workers who know him), and show him you're on his team.

@sjvg1976 The goal isn't so much 'to change the way that guy is' as it's "to understand WHY he is that way."

Well, I always knew I was the best one working on or selling cell phones because the customers would tell the other associates that they'd rather wait for me to wait on them. Or, if it was my day off, that they'd just come back when I was there.
I've never worked for a boss who thought they were the only one who could do the jobs correctly, so can't help you with that. Sorry that's happening to you.

@DaddyEvil it's not easy when you have 1000 workers and you have to take their responsibility for achieving the targets.

@sjvg1976 That's true. I've never worked in an office setting.

Other people think they are the best because they don't want themselves called to be failure.

@sjvg1976 Some bosses wanted to be perfectionist because they're not that perfect.

Maybe secretly leave a book of management styles that work on his desk. Make sure no one else sees you though so if he gets mad about it, you can't be blamed.

That's a terrible way to be a boss, but there is always someone at every job that is rude and offensive.

@misunderstood_zombie I am 46 years now and I can't get a good job now because most companies hire young people as they dont want to hire experienced people because they will have to pay more to them.

I suppose its working for him otherwise he would surely try a different tactic , most of the people who get on are the noisy ones that stay late but dont work, the ones doing all the work are the quiet ones who never do overtime

@MarieCoyle that's what I do, I dont listen to him when he shouts and just ignores whatever he says. I know if I do good then too he will find some error and criticize me.

@sjvg1976 Screaming all day, disrespecting employees, just plain nasty. He obviously hates his job and he isn't fond of people, either. I think I would have to get earplugs and ignore him to save my sanity. I hope you can find somewhere else to work. That sounds like an explosion ready to happen.

Office politics is everywhere and more in corporate companies because people want to ride up the success ladder fast there. Though, some people have some personal issues that they tend to release their anger in their office.
Try to change the job or project, to change your boss. On the other side, if the person has some narcissistic disorder, then nobody won't be able to change him/her. Read about NPD - it's a mental disorder.

I have experience the same thing. and when we have a group school project. and we did all the work and she just say she is the only one who is doing the all work. so we changed her by.
Asking the teacher to make us change group. but since the teacher did not like that.
she said (Ha Loosers)
so we decided to absent at the day of presentation..
Result. we all dont have group project. that is why my teammates/groupmates are just gone solo.
ends up the bad leader did nothing

Perhaps, he is insecure and tries to project a wrong sense of self-confidence by putting others down. Because truly confident help will help and support people.
You may want to give his confidence back by reassuring him that he is indeed smart but it would be best to listen to others as well, Putting him down or criticizing him would make him more defensive.

You might be having a official portal where you can express your grievance? You can give your opinion there. My elder son is facing the same problem. They have a portal where they upload their grievances.

If you think you cannot change him and you cannot change a job at the moment, just focus on doing your job until you're ready to leave. Confronting him will only put you in an even more difficult position.
