Are you sometimes confused?

I don’t know what is happening to my brain. It happened often times that I spoke to my husband or to my friends in many languages. I mean that is okay if I spoke in English, German, Tagalog or in Bisayan language in the whole sentence. But I have spoken in one sentence, in 2 or 3 different languages. Yesterday, I said to my husband, Don’t ißt/isst (eat in German language) it! See! I should have said, don’t eat it. I was shock at first and then was laughing about it. I normally speak or write in one language in a sentence or sentences, but lately not. I think my brain is overworked especially now that I am learning Korean language. Sometimes, I greeted my husband in Korean when he picked me up from work. The words just automatically came out from my mouth. Gladfully, he just smiled when something like this happened. He encouraged me to take a course so I will be fluent when travelling to Korea. If ever that happens in the future. Do you think I am getting crazy?

No, you are not crazy. I have worked with Hispanics who always made sentences using both English and Spanish words and it made it easy for me to grasp the gist of the conversation.

Thank you @rebelann. I see. I can also understand a bit of Spanish as our Filipino language has many Spanish words it in. I have also studied 2 years Spanish in college as it was a must in my BSE course. If I have known then that I would be living in Europe in the future, I would have studied Spanish by heart.

@thelme55 I have had Spanish friends and they had difficulties communicating in English any reason as to why?

@Laurakemunto Maybe because they only have contacts with Spanish speaking people. If they practice their English often, they will improve their language conversation.

I think it is hard for our brain sometimes when we start learning a new language. I am continuing to learn French on Duolingo but sometimes a German word pops into my head as I learnt German at school for a few years and tried to brush up on it when we went overseas.

That reminds me of what my British colleague told me while we were in Indonesia. I was teaching him conversational Indonesian. He said he was getting confused as he got mixed up with Greek language that he was not fluent to start with. He was in Greece for a few years earlier. We had to call a halt!

I have heard about Duolingo. Was it good? Korean words and sentences are popping in my head every now and then. I watch Korean drama every day when I relax. Thank you @JudyEv. Have a nice week.

If you are crazy, both my husband and I are crazy too. We often mix Italian, French and English in the same phrase. Usually I use the shortest words that each language offers.

I think when we put great effort in learning a language, this can happen. I have found we lose touch with other languages when we deal with others at work or live in another country as happened to me when I lived in Indonesia for five years.

I think so @Shiva49. I am so interested in learning languages that I try my best to make them right. I live in Germany for 40 years and German is my daily language. Bisayan and Tagalog and English languages are my Filipino languages from birth and when I was in school there. I have not forgotten them as I use them talking to my relatives. English language is my daily online language. I think if I don’t use them every day, I will forget them. Thank you.

What comes out first is what the mind has grasped and mixing languages sometimes can cause confusion but it's all okay don't you agree? I hear mahandrin is a very difficult language I don't know any idea?

Spanish is of course hard to learn @averygirl72. It is a pity that Spanish is abolished in school in the Philippines. I still had to take it for 2 years as it was compulsory subject when I was still in college in the Philippines. My grandfather was still talking to me in Spanish when I was a child there. I am fond of watching Korean dramas and I don’t like to read the subtitles forever and so this motivates me to learn Korean language. Yes, German is hard to learn. I had to learn it as I married a German and living in Germany for decades now.

@thelme55 yes it is confusing. Sometimes I do that too. We are currently in Pampanga and sometimes I use Kapampanga and Pangasinan dialects over Filipino. The kids can also understand the dialects.

I think it can happen our brains go through a lot every day. I created a music list on YouTube and I listen to it now and then because I have songs in both English and Latvian, and since I have no one to speak to except my kittens, I listen to the change of language in the songs so I am sure I still understand Latvian and I say my prayers in Latvian. I remember in Latvia, my husband was always trying ti improve his English, but we spoke Latvian at home so I should also get my language confused and one day we were sitting down to eat, and I realized I did not have my cup. So I said to him in Latvian Man it jadabun mans cups. The funny thing is that I said I have to get my in Latvian but ended with cups in English, If one heard that and translated quickly it could mean that I said I have to get my grave lol because kaps in Latvian is grave.

You're not. But speaking in different languages is a special skill not many people have. Is BTS perhaps your favorite band that's why you're learning Korean? Oh, I'm just guessing why you would want to learn Korean, I can roughly understand now Korean dramas because I keep watching them because of BTS and with simple sentences I don't need to read the subtitles. It's fun learning that way. Anneong!

In Louisiana, they speak (along with English & whatever other languages immigrants brought in) a kind of French Creole---I hear-tell, never actually having been in Louisiana. They say it's a language the French-speaking slaves developed by adapting some of the words they heard their masters speak. (I used to think Creole was an American invention; and THAT Creole is, but MOST languages are forms of Creole---a language from an enslaved population, changed by their adaptation of their masters' languages.) Maybe that's what your mouth is doing ... adapting the language it hears from its master (your polyglot brain).

@thelme55 The first few months after my brain-injury, they say that I would babble on-&-on---totally unintelligible to anybody, but absolutely sure that I was saying "something." (I guess that's kinda how it goes between toddlers & their mothers---the toddlers' babbling would be incoherent to any other person who heard it, but the mothers know exactly what the kids are saying they need.)
