Odd Text Messages...

Yesterday I got a text message asking for Josie on my phone... I don't know a Josie, so told the person they must have the wrong number. The person then asked how long I'd had my number and what my name was.... I told the person I'd owned this number for well over twenty years.... The person then asked for my name again and if I'd like to visit for a while... I blocked the number. When I told Pretty about the odd messages, she started laughing and said some girl must have met a creep so gave him a random phone number... I just happened to be the recipient of her creep's messages. While I find it pretty funny now, I do wish she could have thought up someone else's number to give him. Have you received any weird texts lately? Photo has nothing to do with this discussion. Photo is ostrich ferns in my yard. Photo is mine.

Thank you. This is the weirdest thing that's happened to me in a while. (My phone doesn't ring if the person calling me isn't in my contact list.)

(I once did it to my classmate) I gave my number and I said text it. and I said we meet in that area and I saw him go there but he did not know I was the one who doin it. I guess I got karma in that thing I did, cuz after just that. I accidentally make my tablet fell on ground Nope I havent recieve yet. Come on you are so funny while I was reading the last line.

I think I'd have fun talking with your grandma. (I'd tease her and get her to tell me more fun stuff about you! ) Oopsie! Yeah, karma will get you sooner or later. I'm glad it was just your tablet that fell and not you! I'm sure you'll receive some weird texts when you get a phone, too. I will ask for your phone number, when you get one, and send you weird texts.

@DevMrSamEleazar You're just scared your grandma will tell me all the funny things from when you were a kid! Yeah, we don't want that! Hmm... when is your birthday? (I never had a piggy bank, either. When I was little my dad cut a hole in a plastic like to a plastic jar for me to save money in. I still have the plastic jar... ) Texting to other countries and even talking to people in other countries is allowed on an app like Whatsapp. I talk with vanny in India on Whatsapp quite often. (It is free, except it uses wifi and electricity.)

You could always post your new number on myLot. I promise, we wouldn't give it out to more than two or three million people. I don't give my phone number out, either. But Pretty keeps listing it on different stuff online. *sigh* I keep telling her to list her number but she says she doesn't want to get weird phone calls and text messages.

Sorry, I had to laugh . . . because our friend's dog's name is Josie . . . she had a birthday yesterday and I texted HER (well, her human mom ). If I get texts that weren't meant for me, I don't even reply and just delete. I rarely get fun ones like you did .

@DaddyEvil I did reply once - the guy was inquiring about some job - and I had to tell him he totally had the wrong number. He apologized, but then 5 minutes later he texted a similar inquiry again. I told him he texted the same number - you would think he would see that on his phone. And then a week later, he tried again. Did he not believe me? I didn't reply.

I normally delete them, too. I don't know why I bothered to tell the person it was a wrong number. I'm not sure I'd consider that a "fun" text, though.

I will get random text messages every once in a while addressed to Richard, asking if I’d be willing to sell my property at such and such address. I usually just delete them, but one of these days I’m going to respond and tell them that I (Richard) am ready to sell said property at a very hefty price.

I put my number on a list to get messages from Donald Trump's campaign, thinking it would alert me to all his upcoming rallies (so I could keep myself & my family away from those 'super-spreaders'). And maybe it WOULD have, but not before it sent me a doesn't 'begs for donations,' and I got off that list

You were right to block that number, as the person texting you sounds a little suspicious! I've not received any weird texts, but just the other day I got a voicemail message on my phone for someone else. The caller was so mad at someone that he cursed up a blue streak and I was the lucky recipient!

Yeah, several people in my comments thought it was a scammer trying to get information from me. I'm old but not old enough to fall for that kind of thing. My phone won't accept calls unless the person is in my contact list. Everyone else has to send me a text if they change their phone number so I can add them to the contact list. I'm really sorry that happened to you.

One time I had a women keep calling and asking for someone, finally I said impatiently, "mam, you have the wrong number." She became very irate and stated, "no, you have the wrong number." I also had to laugh at this comeback.

@DaddyEvil I am glad you blocked the number. My first thought was it was a scam because it's amazing (well "scary" really) how far scammers are going nowadays. I wondered if this was a scammer who typed in any random numbers pretending it was a mix-up only to learn your name and then do something further with your name and number. But either way, like I said, glad you blocked them. I haven't had any weird texts lately but our home phone number is a major target for scam calls. The most common one is people from the "Technical Department" and saying they see weird / suspicious behaviour coming from our internet. It's a bunch of bull. Some times I say "Oh, that's weird as we don't have the internet." And they hang up.

Yeah, there's really no telling if Pretty was right or if you've got it right. I'd like to think I wouldn't fall for a scam but they don't know how old I am, either. Scammers could be hoping for someone old and no longer mentally stable. We got rid of the home phone around 15 years ago when we both bought cell phones. I had already turned off long distance on it and AT&T tried to charge me extra because I "didn't have it fully hooked up". That was enough. I told them to disconnect it.

@VivaLaDani13 I thought it was really funny but several people said it might have been someone trying to scam me. I'm glad I blocked them after the first two messages. I get enough of that kind of crap in my email. Thankfully, I hardly see any of it anymore. I started blocking it years ago when I set up my account and most of it goes right into my trash folder, which I dump every time I open my email. I'm always afraid pony is going to get scammed. He really isn't very sophisticated online. (He sees what JJ does and wants to do the same kinds of stuff. I keep telling him not to do it, though.) We never used the house phone after we got the cell phones anyway. AT&T had already raised my rates for basic calling from $12 a month to $24 a month, so I was ready to let them go anyway. We only had the phone through them.

@DaddyEvil There are so many scammers around. And it's getting worse I feel. Even on Facebook lately when trying to sell things, the scammers are multiplying like crazy. I am so glad it just goes to the trash and you do whatever you can to decrease it. JJ does such an awesome job. I really enjoy reading or listening to him dealing with scammers. I haven't read anything about poor Pony dealing with them. I hope they don't trick him into any bull crap! I don't blame you for getting rid of that company even for those rates alone! I know a lot of people who have just stopped using their home phone and now using mobiles instead. A lot cheaper I guess too depending. How are you and how is Pretty going? I hope you are both doing well!

Hola Ric! I'm doing well, how about you? Usually, my phone rejects calls from numbers that aren't in my contact list, but it will accept texts from anybody. (If friends get a new phone number, they have to text me so I can put the new number into the contact list before they can call me.) I don't get calls from unknown numbers but accept texts from unknown ones. But texts are easy enough to delete, too.
