I Know Why the Tree was Cut

I had to go to the.leasing office this morning and I asked if anyone knew why our beautiful green tree was cut down. Max was happy to tell me what had happened.
We had several thunderstorms last week. We had two in one day. It rained hard and the wind blew, lightening flashed and during all the storms the roots of the tree loosened from the ground and leaned. The tree was doomed to come down. So that’s why our beautiful tree was cutdown.

The lightening killed it. It was a mess after the lightening, so they thought it would be better to cut it down.

@sjvg1976 You are right. It was risky if it was left just like that.

I hope somebody will plant another tree to take it's place.

@RubyHawk I used to love seeing a giant sycamore in the garden facing my mum's house but when new owners moved in the first thing they did was to uproot it and get rid of it.

@RubyHawk it is strange to take down a defining feature of your garden that way

@arthurchappell We’ve been notified that tree cutters are coming back to cut more trees. I’m afraid we won’t have any trees left.

What a shame Ruby. I hate to see trees have to come down.

@RebeccasFarm I’m so glad you’re on the mend. Give yourself plenty of time to heal. If you need to take a day off we’ll still be here.

That makes sense. Maybe another tree will be planted in its place.

@RubyHawk Now that's sad. Not even a bush or flowers?

@Carmelanirel2 There were a few low lying shrubs under the tree so I suppose they will remain.

As a nature love (not a tree hugger by any means, just a regular nature lover), I don't thin this was a valid reason for cutting down a beautiful tree. If it was diseased or dying, then yes. But they were just too quick to say cut it down. Why not try to prop the tree back up first, stabilize it, and then secure it in a way that keeps it from toppling over, at least until the roots are able to re-establish themselves firmly in the ground? I would think trying to stabilize it would at least be worth a shot, and then if that didn't work then cut it down.

@RubyHawk Nothing irks me more than companies who say "we care about the environment," and then go clear-cut 5 acres of land and remove every single tree so they can put up an oversized big box store and asphalt parking lot with little bitty trees and shrubs that in no way do justice to what was once there, and in absolutely no way ever provide shade to vehicles parking in said parking lot. For the love of God, why can't they design their stores to try and save as many trees on the property as possible? It's really not that hard.

@moffittjc That reminds me of our latest Walmart, but it isn’t only Walmart. Subdivisions go up with every beautiful tree cut down. Maybe we need laws to protect our trees.

Big trees can be dangerous when there's a storm. It better to cut down the branches before a storm comes.

@aninditasen There was nothing near it but-a few low shrubs and the paved parking lot. But the tree has to go for safety’s sake.

@RubyHawk That's true for the other trees or plants close to it will get damaged.

@MommyOfEli2013 I’m not an authority on trees but I like to see as many trees as possible standing.

I hope that for each tree cut, more trees are planted somewhere.

@everwonderwhy That was good use the tree. You probably had enough fire wood for the winter

@RubyHawk That;s unfortunate. But the shrubs could be a better attraction in your street. T
When a very old tall gum tree was cleaned out by the region's council (because it fell on our front property and across our small dam), I asked the men if they could cut the massive trunk and branches into log-size pieces. They kindly did and we (my family) hauled the truckload of pieces into our firewood storage. That was an exhilarating experience!

@RubyHawk if it will pose danger it must be cut. Authorities here put restrictions on cutting old trees especially the hard wood even if it's planted in private lot.

@florelway I read that we have more forests than ever before and I see hills and mountains of trees but when new housing is built trees are cut down. I think some trees should be left standing in all communities.

@RubyHawk do you have an abundance of trees in your place? Our country needs all those trees to ward off possible effect of calamities. Due to illegal logging activities our forests were gone that is why they make all forms of regulations for the cutting of trees.
