Volcanic alert level down again

Japan

The other day I posted when Sakurajima's alert level went to 5 from 3. It was basically an upgrade "by the rule book" which states that if you have any volcanic rocks flying more than 2 km from the crater, you have to declare Level 5 (Evacuate) but then narrow it down to evacuating only those in a 3-km zone around the crater. So, yes, JMA did follow the rule book, and after observing no other breaches of the 2-km zone by flying rocks, everyone was allowed to go home, and everything is back to normal. Most of the residents were surprised by the Level 5, because the eruption was a pretty normal one. If it had happened during they day, the rocks might not have even been visible, but at night they glowed and were caught by webcams. Anyway we are all back to normal here!
